STEWARDSHIP OF GOD’S BLESSINGS

September 30, 2018…………..……..……………. ..$7,558.00 Last year…………………………….……...…..…......$7,980.75

St. Joseph’s Seminary……………………………….$1,857.00

Thank you for your continued support of our parish and its many needs.

May God bless your generosity to Sacred Heart!

My Dear Friends in Christ,

Before I offer some reflections upon this weekend’s

readings from Scriptures, I wanted to take this opportunity to offer some words of thanks:

Thank you to Ms. Frances Acosta, Principal of Sacred

Heart High School and Fr. Robert Abbatiello, for their awesome work on the Transitus of Saint

Francis this past Wednesday evening; thanks to the Secular Franciscans who provided ample

refreshments afterwards! (And an additional thanks for Fr. Bob for making sure the church

looked beautiful for the Feast!)

Thank you to Mr. Ben Glasser for his fine work on the pedestal for Saint Clare. I am so glad that Clare is

back in the church looking out for us all! Thank you to those who have come forward to offer to

be “Gardening” Angels. If you want to try out

your green thumb, we still have a few areas that need tender loving care!

This week’s Gospel is admittedly “tough” – make no

mistake about it, marriage isn’t easy. We celebrate a lot of weddings at Sacred Heart and some of my most

cherished moments are to be had in conversation with

couples preparing to offer their lives to each other. It seems worthwhile to note, especially in the today’s political

and religious context, that marriage is, at its best, a sign to the world of God’s enduring love for the Church. What

is more, it should go without saying that Marriage isn’t

easy: let’s pray for our married and engaged couples, and also never forget those parishioners who carry the cross of

separation and divorce in a profound way.

With prayers,

Prayer Shawl Group

The Prayer Shawl Group started back in 2010 with the goal

of creating beautiful prayer shawls for distribution to the homebound, ill and bereaved. Over the course of the past

8 years, they have distributed hundreds of shawls and lap robes to parishioners, their families, and nursing homes.

Three years ago, they added hats to their list for hospice and hospitals for those suffering the side effects of chemo-

therapy.

Last year, they created over 130 red hats for the American

Heart Association’s “Little hats, Big hearts” program.

The group generally meets on the second Friday of the month in the Church Hall following the 8:30 Mass. If you

would like to join them, please bring your knitting needles,

crochet hooks, work in progress and see what this year will bring!
