Pentecost Sunday May 31, 2020
Page 3
Penticost
Acts of the Apostles 2:1-11 | 1 Corinthians 12:3-7 | John 20:19-23
Gospel The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped,
but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.
1. In today’s gospel, Jesus greets His disciples by offering them peace. How do you strive to bring Christ’s peace to those you greet each day? Here is a challenge for you this week. Offer a smile to twenty-five (25) people. This should offer peace to them, and to yourself.
2. Is the door to your heart locked because of some type of fear or doubt? If so, what can you do to open that door to your heart?
3. Today the Church’s celebration of the Paschal Mystery alone, comes to a close
and we now celebrate the Paschal Mystery of the Church with the addition of the Holy Spirit. Christ breathed on His followers (apostles and disciples) and breathed life into them just as God breathed on Adam and gave him life. Christ has also breathed on you, and you have been given a new life – a life in Christ. Do you feel His breath? Do you feel the Holy Spirit working in you?
4. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the various nations that gathered in Jerusalem on Pentecost Day were united. Do you feel united with others, especially here at St. Mark’s? Is it the presence of the Holy Spirit that helps unification?
5. Are your sins forgiven or have they been retained? If they are retained, what action can you take to find forgiveness?

Thank you for shepherding us!
A warm and sincere note of gratitude to the parishioners of St. Mark who continued to send donations to our parish as well as donations for St. Vincent de Paul during this very difficult time. We are blessed by your generosity and we thank God for your support during these months of uncertainty!
Because the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was designated an essential organization by FEMA, a small, but dedicated, group of Vincentian members manned our office phones and were present in the office 4 days per week for 2-3 hours each day. All interviews were conducted via telephone (no person to person contact). We were able to help families in need with emergency assistance in the amount of over $15,000. (Including rent and/or utilities, car repairs and other requests). We were also able to help St. Mark parishioners in need. Our Vincentian members provided information on how to apply for unemployment and gave direction on how homeless individuals could apply for a stimulus check if they met the criteria. During this time, there was a friendly voice and a listening ear to hear concerns when people were isolated alone at home. Many times, this was all they needed to hear!
Please know we could not continue to do these good works without your generous spirit of giving for those who are struggling to have the everyday necessities of food and shelter for their families.
God bless you and keep you and your loved ones safe and well.
Here at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we routinely refer our neighbors in need to the Infant and Toddler Pantry located at the Congregational Church on Rte 301 (around the corner from St. Mark). It is a beautifully set up "store" in the Congregational Church where parents in crisis can go for diapers, baby wipes and clothing for their infants and toddlers. It is also one of the only places in our area of Marion County that provides this needed service. They have helped us out for years at the Society with our needy parents. Since mid March, during this shutdown, they have become really short on funds and donations since the church and other organizations that provide them with support were closed. The Pastor of the Congregational Church has informed us that on Monday, June 8, from 10 AM - 12 noon there will be a drive-thru for desperately needed donations of diapers, baby wipes and clothing for infants and toddlers. Monetary donations will also be accepted at the drive through. You can also send your check to the church. Make it payable to St. Mark and be sure to note in the memo section "Infant and Toddler Pantry" so the funds are transferred directly to them.
There is never a fee and everything is
available free of charge!
Since the obligation to attend Mass has been lifted until further notice, if you cannot attend Mass on Sunday, do not worry…Christ suffers with those
who cannot come to Mass due to the pandemic.
He understands.
