Pretérito endings for –er / -ir verbs are:

-í -iste -ió

-imos-isteis-ieron

• are considered to be completed in the past or can be viewed as single events.

The preterite tense is used for actions that…

• were repeated a specific number of times

• state the beginning or the end of an event.

• were part of a chain of events.

Fui al mercado y compré comida para la cena.

Estudié por cinco horas ayer.

Te llamé por teléfono tres veces anoche.
