The Nolio Automation Center Installation and Administration Guide describes the installation process of Nolio ASAP versions 3.2 and 3.2.1

Nolio ASAP 3.2.1 is a patch over ASAP 3.2 and can be installed as an upgrade on top of Nolio ASAP 3.0, ASAP 3.1, and ASAP 3.2, or as a new installation.

The information in this document refers to Nolio ASAP 3.2, but all information is equally relevant for ASAP 3.2.1 as well.

This chapter introduces Nolio Automation Center's architecture and details system requirements and platform compatibilities for each of the Nolio Automation Center modules.

No lio Automation Center Arch itec ture Nolio Automation Center is a platform for the automation of complex, multi-tier applications. It includes the following modules:

• Nolio Data Management Server (referred to as Data Management Server) - to which clients connect in order to access Nolio Automation Center

• Nolio Execution Server (referred to as Execution Server)

• Nolio Agents (referred to as Agents)

• Nolio Client UI (referred to as Client UI)

Execution Servers and Agents are the modules that work in the background to enable the management and automation of such multi-tier application environments.

When a process is executed in Nolio Automation Center, the appropriate data and instructions are channeled from the Data Management Server to the Execution Server that manages a specific Data Center. For the purpose of managing the data center activities, the Nolio Automation Center also includes any number of Agent modules, each of which controls a specific physical server involved in the execution of a process. Each Agent receives the appropriate instructions passed to it by the Execution Server and implements them on the server to which it is linked.

The Client UI is the user interface application that connects to and interacts with the Data Management Server. It is downloaded and installed automatically upon accessing the Nolio Automation Server Web server. It is installed using the Java WebStart technology which requires administrative user privileges on the client machine.

Software Prerequis ites Nolio Automation Center requires a database to store data, changes, and configurations.

By default, Nolio installation process assumes that a MySQL database is used.

However, Nolio ASAP can be manually configured to use Oracle or MS SQL Server databases as the storage database. To receive more information and configuration instructions, contact [email protected].

Supported database versions are as follows:

MySQL Oracle MS SQL Server Versions: 5.1.30 and higher (Tested: 5.1.30 to 5.1.56) Note: InnoDB Storage Engine must be enabled.

Versions: 10g and higher (Tested: 10.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.1)

Versions: SQL 2005 and higher (Tested: SQL 2008 and SQL 2008R2)

MySQL Ins tallation Requirements A database user must be created for use by the Nolio ASAP application. The user has the option to decide which database user ASAP will use. The database user may be root and it can be 'regular' user with the privileges described below.

The following scenarios are supported:

• Install with root user

No special configurations are required.

User will need to supply the connection details for the MySQL database.

• Install with non-root user

Two options are supported:

A database will be created by the database administrator.

A database will be created by MySQL DBA with UTF-8 character set.

InnoDB storage is enabled in this MySQL instance.

A database user should be created with the following privileges:

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON <db_name>.* TO <username>@<hostname> IDENTIFIED BY ‘<password>’;

For example: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON NOLIO_DB.* to nolio@localhost IDENTIFIED by ‘nolio’;

A database will be created by Nolio as part of the installation.

A database user should be created by the MySQL DBA. The user should be granted privileges to create a database and its objects, as follows:

GRANT CREATE, DROP, REFERENCES, EVENT, ALTER, DELETE, INDEX, INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE, CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES, LOCK TABLES, TRIGGER, CREATE VIEW, SHOW VIEW, ALTER ROUTINE, CREATE ROUTINE, EXECUTE ON *.* TO <username>@<hostname;

During installation, connection details will be requested.

The existence of a running MySQL instance is a mandatory requirement for Nolio ASAP.

Web Brows ers and Flas h Player The Nolio Release Deployment Dashboard is a Web-based application that requires Adobe Flash Player 10 to be installed on each client machine.

If Adobe Flash Player was not previously installed on the client machine, a message will display warning that the option to view portal and report graphs is disabled.

The supported Web browsers are:

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and higher

• Google Chrome

• Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and higher

The installation of the Data Management Server and the Execution Server is performed through a single installation wizard, Nolio Server Setup. This wizard supports two types of installation:

• Full Installation: installs all the components of the Nolio platform (Data Management Server, Execution Server, Agent, and Demo application) on a single server.

• Custom Installation: is aimed at installing either the Data Management Server or the Execution Server separately, thus supporting distribution of the Nolio components across multiple servers. Please note that the Custom Installation does not support installing the Nolio Agent if the Data Management Server is not selected to be installed.

Installing a Nolio Agent solely is performed with a dedicated executable – nolio_agent_<OS>.

The setup images can be found in the Setup directory located directly beneath the root of the Nolio Automation Center installation CD.

Note: The installation process described in this section refers to platforms with graphical user interface (GUI) capabilities. The non-graphical installation process provides the same configuration options through a Command Line Interface (CLI).

To perform an installation using the CLI:

1. Transfer the installation file to the target machine.

2. Grant “a+x” permission to the installation file:

chmod a+x nolio_server_<OS>_3_2_b<#>.sh

3. Execute the installation file:

./nolio_server_<OS>_3_2_b<#>.sh

4. Follow the instructions on screen.

Required Us er Credentia ls fo r Ins ta lla tion of Server The following describes the user credentials required for installing the Nolio server:

• Windows

For the installation process, the logged in user must have administrative privileges to enable service creation.

The owner of the Nolio Component service is configured by default to run with the Local System account.

For some advanced functions, such as remote installation of agents on Windows platforms, the service must log on as a user with administrative privileges.

The owner of the Nolio service should have:

Write permissions to the file system.

Permission to start a service.

• Linux and Solaris

For Data Management and Execution Server components only:

User should have permissions to create and update files under the installation directory.

For full installations that also include the Nolio Agent component:

Root user, or a different user who is part of the root group, is required for the installation process.

Root user group specification is required to enable the agent automatic startup scripts within the machine startup scripts.

Other privileged users, with permissions to create and update files under the installation directory, can perform the installation that includes Nolio Agent.

Note: The Nolio Agent will not start automatically in case the machine is restarted.

To configure Nolio Agent to be added to the automatic startup scripts of the machine, perform the Configuring Linux/Solaris for Automatic Startup (on page 31) procedure.

2. Invoke the wizard service executable file. The Welcome window opens.

3. Click Next. The License Agreement window opens.

4. Read the terms of the License Agreement, and indicate your acceptance of them by selecting the relevant radio button.

5. Click Next. The Production Activation Key window opens.

6. Enter the Product Activation Key which you received as part of the product download process.

7. Click Next. The Select Destination Directory window opens.

8. Specify the path of the installation root for this Nolio Automation Center module. It is recommended that you accept the default directory displayed, but you can browse to an alternative directory location on the target machine.

If the directory you specified does not already exist, it will be created now.

9. If default ports are not available, a dialog will display with a prompt for the addition of required ports.

Enter the new default ports.

10. Click Next. The Installation Type Selection window opens.

11. Select either:

Complete Installation: to install all components on a single server (recommended).

OR

Custom Installation: to choose and configure Nolio components.

12. If a Custom installation was selected, the Components Selection window opens.

13. Click Next. The System Requirements window opens, where you can review the list of software and hardware requirements.

14. Click Next. The Advanced Communication Configuration window opens.

15. Specify the port to be used by the Nolio agent. The default port is 6900 when using the Full Installation mode

and 6600 when using the Custom Installation mode.

Note: This window will not appear if the Agent component was not selected in Custom Installation mode.

16. Click Next. The Execution Server Configuration window opens.

17. Specify the port to be used by the Execution Server. The default port is 6600 (recommended). In this window, you can also define whether you will use secure communication by selecting the check box.

Note: This window will not appear if the Execution Server component was not selected in Custom Installation mode

18. Click Next. If a custom installation was selected, the Define Node ID window opens.

19. Enter a unique name for the Execution Server (Custom Installation only). The installation will provide you with

a default value (usually, an es_<SERVER-NAME> or IP).

Note: This window will appear only in Custom Installation mode and only if the Execution Server component was selected.

20. Click Next. The Database Connection Details window opens, displaying the details for the pre-installed MySQL database. These are required to enable Nolio Automation Center to create the required schema and to store configurations and changes. The installer will check the connection to the database and the privileges of the supplied database user name.

The Installer will create the new database or will connect to the previously created database. If the previously created database is not empty or is not already populated with the Nolio schema, the installer will stop and alert the user.

21. For complete details on the user and privilege requirements for different installation scenarios, refer to Software Prerequisites (on page 10).

22. The Database connection details screen will display.

Enter the database connection details.

23. Click Next. The Ready to Install window opens. The installer displays a list of components that are about to

be installed.

24. Click Next. The Installing window opens, displaying the progress of the installation. The progress bar is automatically updated.

25. When installation progress is complete, click Next. The Select Start Menu Folder window opens.

26. Select how you would like shortcuts to be installed.

a. Specify the Program Group in which the shortcut(s) for the currently installed module will be created. The default here is Nolio.

b. If you do not want to create a shortcut in the Windows Start Menu, select the relevant check box.

27. Click Next. The Completing the Nolio Automation Center Setup Wizard window opens, indicating that installation is complete.

28. Click Finish.

Note: To configure the Nolio Agent to startup automatically under Solaris or Linux systems, refer to Configuring Linux/Solaris for Automatic Startup of Nolio Agent (on page 31).

S e rvice Credentia ls on Windows By default, the Nolio Server service is configured to run with the Local System account. For some advanced functions (such as remote installation of agents on Windows platforms) the service must log on as a user with administrative privileges.

To modify the s ervice logon account: 1. Go to Windows Services.

2. Open the Properties dialog of the Nolio Server 2.0 service entry.

3. Click the Log On tab and set the appropriate account credentials.

4. Restart the service.

No lio Server Service Management on Non-Windows Pla tfo rms The following commands are available on non-Windows platforms for the Nolio Server service startup and shutdown:

• Service startup: ./bin/startup.sh

• Service shutdown: ./bin/shutdown.sh

Note: All commands refer to paths relative to the <NOLIO Datamanagement HOME DIRECTORY>.

Un ins ta lling Nolio Automation Center To unins ta ll Nolio Automation Center from a machine running under Windows Invoke the specific uninstall executable supplied:

1. Choose Start > All Programs > Nolio.

2. In the menu that opens to the right, choose Nolio Automation Center Uninstaller.

3. When queried whether to remove the installation, click Yes.

4. Follow the uninstall wizard instructions.

Note: The schema in the database will not be removed.

As previously indicated, the Nolio Automation Center Agent module may be installed on Windows, Linux, or Solaris machines.

The installation of Nolio Agents can be performed through an executable wizard (local installation) or through the Nolio application user interface (remote installation).

Loca l Agent Ins ta lla tion Installing Nolio Agent is performed by running the Nolio Agent Setup Wizard.

Note: The installation process described in this section refers to platforms with GUI capabilities. The non-graphical installation process provides the same configuration options through a CLI.

To perform an installation using the CLI:

1. Transfer the installation file to the target machine.

2. Grant “a+x” permission to the installation file:

chmod a+x nolio_agent_<OS>_3_2_b<#>.sh

3. Execute the installation file:

./nolio_agent_<OS>_3_2_b<#>.sh

The setup wizard executable is found in the Setups directory located directly beneath the root of the Nolio Automation Center installation media kit.

As part of the installation process, the Agent service will be set to start automatically after the server's boot.

Important Note for Installation of Agents on AIX Platforms ONLY:

When installing Nolio Agents on IBM AIX platforms, JAVA JRE 6 must be installed on the target server prior to Nolio Agent setup.

The installation of the Nolio Agent and the functionality of the Agent assume that the required JRE version has been installed in its default location: /usr/java_64/JRE

Other privileged users, with permissions to create and update files under the installation directory, can perform the installation that includes Nolio Agent.

Note: The Nolio Agent will not start automatically in case the machine is restarted.

To configure Nolio Agent to be added to the automatic startup scripts of the machine, perform the Configuring Linux/Solaris for Automatic Startup (on page 31) procedure.

11. Specify the port through which the Nolio Agent will communicate with its Execution Server. The default port for Agents is 6600. However, in case the Nolio Execution Server is installed on the same server and you have not changed its default port, port 6600 will be in use and you will need to choose a different port.

12. Click Next. The Define Node ID window opens.

13. Specify a unique name for this agent. By default, the installer suggests the server's name or IP address. You

may provide a different name as long it is unique across all Agents and Execution Servers.

14. Click Next. The Define Execution Server window opens.

15. Specify the Execution Server to which this agent reports. Provide the DNS name or IP address of the

Execution Server and the port on which it is listening. If your system is configured to use secured communication, then select the relevant check box.

16. Click Next. The Installing window opens, displaying the progress of the installation.

17. When installation progress is complete, click Next. The Select Start Menu Folder window opens.

18. Select how you would like shortcuts installed.

Note: The following configuration procedure should only be performed if you installed Nolio Agent with a non-root user.

Remote Agent Ins ta lla tion To remotely install a new Nolio Agent, you may use the remote installation feature.

The ability to perform remote agent installation is dependent on the install base of the Nolio Execution Server.

The following configurations are supported for Nolio Execution Server running on:

• Windows

Remote installation of agents on Windows platforms

Remote installation of agents on Linux and/or Solaris platforms

• Linux or Solaris

Remote installation of agents on Linux and/or Solaris platforms

Prerequis ites To enable remote agent installation, the Execution Server to which the new agents will be connected should have the target OS Agent’s executable in its scripts folder.

For example: In the case where the new agent to be installed should run on a Solaris x86 platform, the agent’s installation file (nolio_agent_solaris-x86_3_2_b<#>.sh) should be copied to the Execution Server’ script folder located at: <Execution Server Home Directory>/scripts

The target machine must be configured properly to allow remote installation. In the case of Windows, the Nolio Server Service owner must have administrative privileges and 'Log On As A Service' rights on the machine.

4. Click Install. The Agent Installation Status Progress window opens.

5. When the installation completes, click Close to close this window.

As part of the installation process, the Agent services will be set to start automatically after the server's boot. If the installer will not be able to do so, you will be notified. Failure might occur due to permissions issues that will prevent the installation process from copying the required files to the needed location. For instructions on how to set automatic startup, see Configuring Linux/Solaris for Automatic Startup of Nolio Agent (on page 31).

Note: On Windows platforms, in the case where the installer fails to install or start the Nolio Agent service, the installation will be rolled back and the installation files will be removed.

Unins ta lling Nolio Agent This section provides instructions for uninstalling the Nolio Agent from Windows and Linux systems.

Windows Uninstalling Nolio Agent from a machine running under Windows is performed by invoking its uninstall executable.

To unins ta ll Nolio Agent: 1. Choose Start > All Programs > Nolio.

2. In the menu that opens to the right, choose the Nolio Agent Uninstaller.

3. When queried whether to remove the installation, click Yes.

4. Follow the uninstall wizard instructions.

Note: This procedure will not uninstall the MySQL DB that was installed during the complete installation.

Linux Uninstalling Nolio Agent on a machine running under Linux is performed by running the Nolio Agent uninstall shell script.

• If the target machine has a GUI, uninstall is performed in the same manner as for Windows (on page 36).

Launching the Clien t UI The Nolio Automation Center UI uses Web Start technology.

Can access the Reports panel.

Must be assigned access levels to Design Processes and/or Run Processes. In other words, a user must have at least a designer or an operator role.

Must be granted permissions on server groups and environments.

Cannot access the Administration panel.

• Superuser: A user who can perform administrative tasks, such as:

Managing Nolio Automation Center users, permissions, available actions, published processes, agents, test agents, and system settings.

Accessing all panels and tabs. Therefore, there is no need to assign access levels.

Operating on all server groups and environments.

• Operator: The user can run designed application processes in the Environments tab.

When adding user, select Run Processes.

• Designer: The user can design the deployment of server-based application processes in the Components and Processes tabs.

When adding user, select Publish Processes.

Users, who are not superusers, can only:

• View applications which they have created and those to which have been given Can view application permission.

• Modify the settings of permitted application environments to which they have Designer access level and have been granted Environment admin permission.

• Run processes to which they have Operator access role and Application permission for the application and process.

ASAP Permissions Management specifically allows you to control a user's ability to:

• View selected applications and their environments and processes.

• Execute processes defined for environments within the selected applications.

• Exercise administrative control over the application environments.

Administrative control consists of:

Executing all processes in an environment.

Managing instances and links in an environment.

Assigning published processes to an environment.

By default:

Users with user role cannot view applications other than the applications they have created.

Users with superuser role can view all applications.

Nolio Automation Center also enables you to simultaneously grant permissions to multiple users, through the use of user groups. When you add users to a user group and then grant permissions to the user group, all members of the group are automatically assigned those permissions.

See Granting Permission for Applications (on page 58) and Granting Permissions for Environments (on page 59).

Unders tanding Us er Authentication ASAP provides a users management system that supports login and authentication for its users. When a user is added to ASAP, their details are added to the users table. These details are used later on to authenticate users upon login. The ‘username’ attribute is a unique identifier of the user that is used to lookup that user in the database.

ASAP supports two authentication methods:

• Basic

The Basic authentication method is a proprietary user management mechanism that stores the user’s password in the database and authenticates the user against it upon login.

• LDAP

Nolio supports authentication of ASAP users against any LDAP server.

When using LDAP authentication, the user password is not stored in ASAP. Whenever an LDAP user logs in, the password that they provided during login is authenticated against an LDAP server. The required LDAP attributes are stored in the user’s record in the database. See Understanding LDAP Authentication Attributes (on page 47).

ASAP supports authentication against any LDAP server, including Active Directory.

Granting Permis s ions for Server Groups To grant permis s ions on Server Groups : 1. In the Administration window's Navigation Panel, click the Permissions Management tab. The

Ove rview Nolio Automation Center manages the automation of multi-tier applications, by channeling data and instructions to Nolio Execution Servers installed at Data Centers. The Execution Servers then provide the information to the Nolio Agents installed on each of the Data Center servers.

To enable Nolio Automation Center to channel data to Execution Servers and agents, you must first define the Execution Servers and agents in Nolio Automation Center.

Once you have defined the necessary Execution Servers and agents, you can organize the agents, by adding them to agent groups. Each agent group represents a group of agents that have commonality.

In addition, you can specify which of the defined agents will serve as test agents. Test Agents are used for testing actions, flows, and processes while modeling applications in Nolio Automation Center.

In order for an agent to serve as a test agent, it must belong to the test agents group.

Upgrading Agents This option will enable customers to upgrade their previous version of the Nolio environment. Instead of upgrading each individual client, you may select all agents and upgrade them automatically.

Important Note: Upgrading to ASAP 3.2 is supported from versions 3.0 and 3.1 only.

To upgrade agents : 1. In the Administration window's Navigation Panel, click the Agents Management tab. The Agents

Management page opens.

2. In the Agent list, select the Agents you want to upgrade.

3. Right-click and select Upgrade selected agents. All selected agents are upgraded to the newest version of the Nolio environment.

4. When the Agents Upgrade process begins, an Agents Status window will open and display the upgrade progress. See Understanding the Upgrade Status Progress (on page 72).

5. When the Agents Upgrade process completes, an 'Upgrade finished successfully' message will display.

Important Note: The upgrade process of a previous Nolio environment requires an Upgrade of all Nolio components: Data management Server, Execution Server, and Nolio Agent.

The upgrade should be performed as follows: Data Management Server, Execution Server(s) and Nolio Agent(s).

The upgrading process for the Nolio Data Management Server and Execution Server is explained separately in the zipped upgrade instructions file.

The progress is displayed by a green bar which moves across the column row as the upgrade process proceeds through the job steps. The sequence of possible successful job step messages is:

• Copying files to Execution Server

• Copying files to agent

• Restarting agent

• Upgrade succeeded

If an upgrade step fails, an error message for the step will display in the status column and the cell will have a red background. The likely sequence of failure messages is:

• Failure to copy file to Execution Server

• Failure to copy files to agent

• Failed restarting agent

• Upgrade failed

If the upgrade includes multiple agents and fails, an additional popup will display with the message 'At least 1 agent failed to upgrade'.

At any time during the upgrade process, you may click on a row and a new popup will display a message with additional information.

You can close the Agents Status window during the upgrade process. The job will continue to run in the background.

This section explains how to manage action templates in the Nolio Automation Center actions inventory.

Ove rview When modeling a server-based application in the Modeling window, it is necessary to define actions that will be available for modeling the application's deployment.

Defining an action is performed by selecting a predefined action template from Nolio Automation Center's Actions Inventory and then modifying the action as desired.

The Actions Inventory displays the action templates organized in categories, where each category represents a group of action templates that have in common usage. This enables you to quickly locate the action templates you need. Nolio Automation Center automatically includes several predefined categories of action templates.

If desired, you can change the category to which a specific action template is assigned. You can also add new categories, modify existing categories, or delete categories as needed.

Together, the predefined action templates and action categories make up the actions inventory.

Nolio Automation Center obtains the actions inventory from a default library that is provided with Nolio Automation Center and is located on the Nolio Center Server. The actions included in the default library are described in detail in the Nolio Automation Center Actions Reference Guide.

If desired, you can purchase or implement libraries of custom action templates, and use these libraries instead of or in addition to the default library. In this case, you must define the new libraries in Nolio Automation Center.

When working with action packs, there may be preliminary configuration tasks to be performed prior to using the packs. These preliminary tasks are described in the Action Reference Guide under the specific action pack. For example, preliminary configuration tasks must be performed on each Nolio Agent machine that will execute WebSphere or WebLogic actions.

Managing Exis ting Ac tions This section describes how to manage existing actions, including adding, editing, deleting action categories and adding and removing action templates from action categories.

Removing Action Templates from Action Categories To remove an ac tion template from an action ca tegory: 1. In the Administration window's Navigation Panel, click the Actions Inventory tab. The Actions Inventory

page opens.

2. In the Action Categories list, expand the relevant category, and select the action template you want to remove from this category.

3. Click . The action template is removed from the category.

Managing Action Templa te Libraries The action inventory is comprised of all action template libraries defined in Nolio Automation Center. To define a library, you must specify its location on the Nolio Center Server. This section describes how to add and delete library locations and reload libraries.

Adding Library Locations To add a library loca tion: 1. In the Administration window's Navigation Panel, click the Actions Inventory tab. The Actions Inventory

page opens.

2. In the upper-right corner of the page, click . The Edit Actions Location window opens with a list of defined library locations.

3. Click . The Input window opens with a prompt for the location of the new library to be loaded.

4. Edit the path and click OK. The library location is added to the list. Nolio Automation Center will draw action

templates from all libraries in the list.

5. Click Close. The new library had been added.

Deleting Library Locations To de le te a library from the Actions Inventory: 1. In the Administration window's Navigation Panel, click the Actions Inventory tab. The Actions Inventory

page opens.

2. In the upper-right corner of the page, click . The edit Actions Location window opens with a list of defined library locations.

3. Select the library you wish to delete and click . A confirmation message appears.

4. Click Yes. The library location is deleted from the list.

5. Click Close.

Reloading Libraries If desired, you can reload all of the defined libraries to Nolio Automation Center. This option is used when new libraries with new templates have been received from Nolio.

Note: Any additions or changes made to previous libraries will not be affected.

To re load a ll defined libraries : 1. In the Administration window's Navigation Panel, click the Actions Inventory tab. The Actions Inventory

page opens.

2. In the upper-right corner of the page, click . The Edit Actions Location window opens with a list of defined library locations.

3. Click . All libraries are reloaded to Nolio Automation Center.

4. Click Close.

This section explains how to view, promote, and delete published processes.

These tasks require you to have superuser role.

For information on roles, see Managing Nolio Automation Center Users and Permissions (on page 45).

Ove rview Once an application has been modeled in the Modeling window, the relevant processes must be published to the Control windows sandbox, where they can be assigned to an environment. The processes are then ready for implementation on your organization's servers.

As part of the working process with Nolio Automation Center, the personnel that design and execute actions and flows are able to test their work using Test Agents. Before a process can be implemented, a user with superuser role must promote the process from the sandbox to public use.

The sandbox is usually referenced as an "internal" location which can be used by those who develop and test the process.

The public is used by the general audience of the Nolio Automation Center.

Pub lis h ing a Proces s After you have completed the creation of a process and tested it, you can now publish the process and assign it to a specific Environment.

To publis h a proces s : 1. In the Processes window's Navigation Panel, click the Processes tab. The Processes page opens.

2. Expand the Architecture that holds the process you wish to publish and select the requested process.

3. Click and approve the operation. The process is now published.

5. Right-click the Environment you wish to assign the published process to, and click Assign Processes. The Assign Process to Environment window opens.

6. You can now mark the process you've just published and promote it to sandbox or public.

7. Click Save.

3. At the bottom of the page, click to expand the Preview pane to display the selected process.

4. To resize the process diagram, use the PageUp and PageDown buttons.

2. In the Sandbox Processes pane, select the process you want to promote and click . The selected process is promoted to public.

Ac tion

An action is a predefined operation that may be made available to and customized for application components. In the context of the flows created in Nolio Automation Center, each such action becomes a step in the flow.

Applica tion

In the context of Nolio Automation Center, an application is a high-level design construct whose design and ultimate execution allow achieving a fully-automated implementation of a server-based system. In Nolio Automation Center, applications are developed in the Processes screen's Components tab.

Component

A component is each one of the system-level software modules that is involved in the implementation of a server-based application designed in Nolio Automation Center.

Flow

A flow is the grouping together of actions, made available to an application's component. This grouping together of actions specifies the chronological sequence in which two or more actions will occur. In addition, it may specify the conditional nature of the transition made from the completion of one action to the start of the next action in the sequence.

Implementa tion

The fully automated performance of all operations related to the deployment, maintenance, or other activities, on the software components participating in a server-based application. An implementation is achieved by executing some or all of the processes created for an architecture.

LDAP

The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is an application protocol for reading and editing directories over an IP network. LDAP directories often contain user authentication information.

Nolio Agent

Nolio Agent is the Nolio Automation Center module that receives the appropriate instructions passed to it by Nolio Automation Center and implements them on the server to which it is linked.

Nolio Cente r

Nolio Automation Center's Nolio Center is the central control mechanism that coordinates the implementation of packaged processes designed in Nolio Automation Center.

When a process is actually executed, the appropriate data and instructions are channeled from the Nolio Center via one or more dedicated Gateways to the Nolio Execution Server that manages a specific Data Center. Handling data propagation for a specific group of servers, each Data Center also includes any number of Nolio Agent modules, each of which controls a specific physical server involved in the execution of a process.

Proces s

A process is a high-level sequence of planned activity involving one, multiple, or all components of an application. A process is assembled by instantiating the lower-level flows that have previously been created per component.
