ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Ezekiel 17:22-24 God will restore the kingdom of Judah, as symbolized by the cedar. The deed is emphasized by the words, “As I, the Lord have spoken, so will I

do.” Second Reading: II Corinthians 5:6-10

Paul acknowledges “that we are, in a sense, away from the Lord while in this life and bound to our bodies.” We will be fully united with God in

the next life, if we please him in this life. Gospel: Mark 4:26-34

The reign of God is compared to a mustard seed which is the smallest of seeds yet grows to become the largest of shrubs. Similarly, God’s

community grows gradually until it becomes large and strong.

11thSunday in Ordinary Times

Welcome! New parishioners are asked to register by calling or visiting the parish office or by speaking to one of the parish staff. WHY A CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN SHOULD BE A REGISTERED PARISHIONER The precepts of the Church explained that: we need to belong to a parish (your

parish is the Church in the City where you are domiciled) and to contribute to its support. Everyone should do this (Canon 107). To identify yourself with a worshipping community of faith. Salvation comes to us by God in community. Religion is not meant to be individualistic. Membership in a parish community is the norm. To allow the priest of the parish to know you so that Letters of Recommendation can be given when needed. (Sponsorship/certificates)

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 17, 2018 “Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.”

In recent years we have heard calls for transparency and accountability. Whether in politics, the corporate world or the church, demands are being made on the activities of others. Judgments follow. The television is filled with many court room cases being exposed and decisions made – guilty, non guilty, fines and recompense. That is entertainment. St. Paul reminds us that we all will experience the same accountability for reward or punishment. Sometimes we try to avoid finding ourselves as the subject of such scrutiny, yet it is only as a result of our goodness, our prayer life, our service to others, that the reward will come. For many, it is quite convenient to pass over the idea of judgment. Maybe we should spend a moment to judge ourselves, ask forgiveness and reap the reward. Remember Matthew 25, ‘Come blessed of my Father inherit the kingdom prepared for you….” =========================================================

There will be a Registration Meeting for Parents of children who are eligible for the Awakenings Program ( 4 & 5 Years Old) and for those children in grades 1 through 8th on June 24th at 6:00PM in the Church. There will also be a Registration Meeting for Parents and candidates who are in and entering the Confirmation Program on Monday, June 25 at 7:00PM in the Church. Please make sure you attend this important meeting. ========================================
