Transcript of Zak Passion Project

Hiroshima and Nagasaki• It was World War 2, and Germany had surrendered to the allies, but Japan

wouldn’t. So the US dropped a bomb on Japan.• 8.15am on 6 August 1945 a US B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on

the Japanese city of Hiroshima.• 80,000 people were killed• 3 days later a bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, killing 40,000 more people.• Another 100,000 died of radiation poisoning after the bombs.• A Chinese man in Japan survived both bombs.• This is the only nuclear bomb attack ever.

What was in the bomb?

Uranium and Plutonium - that’s

what an atomic bomb is made out of.

Hiroshima

• The bomb that dropped on Hiroshima was called Little Boy, dropped by a plane named the Enola Gay

• The explosion was huge, the city was destroyed.

• It didn’t kill soilders it killed civilians just being normal, going to school, hanging out at home.

• The bomb was over 10 feet long and weighed around 10,000 pounds.

Bombing• The explosion was massive and the equivalent to

18,000 tons of TNT. • Scientists figured that the temperature at the

centre of the explosion was three times hotter than at the centre of the sun.

• Six days after the bombing of Nagasaki the Emperor Hirohito and Japan surrendered to US forces.

• The Emperor announced this on the radio. It was the first time most people in Japan had heard his voice.

Modern nuclear bombs• There are believed to be over 4000 nuclear bombs made since the war. • None have been dropped on a country again.• I think it would start another world war if someone dropped a nuke, and

many people would be hurt.• Here is a nuclear bomb head:
