Geography NC Objectives: Human and Physical Geography

• Describe and understand key aspects of: Physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the water cycle

• Discuss how volcanoes and other natural disasters (earthquakes, Tsunamis) affect human life e.g. settlements and spatial variation.

• Locate places in the world where volcanoes occur. • Know where tectonic plates and the ring of fire lay • Recognise the different traits of volcanoes, including dormant, extinct

and active volcanoes • Understand and be able to communicate in different ways the cause

of volcanoes and the process that occurs before a volcano erupts. • Draw diagrams, produce writing and use the correct vocabulary for

each stage of the process of volcanic eruption. • Ask and answer questions about the effects of volcanoes.

Cross Curricular: Reading: A range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts. NC Objectives:

• Identifying main ideas drawn from more than one paragraph and summarising these

• Identifying how language, structure, and presentation contribute to meaning

• Using dictionaries to check the meaning of words that they have read

• Retrieve and record information from non-fiction

• drawing inferences such as inferring characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions, and justifying inferences with evidence

Cross Curricular: Science Electricity NC Objectives:

• identify common appliances that run on electricity

• construct a simple series electrical circuit, • identifying and naming its basic parts, including

cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers • identify whether or not a lamp will light in a

simple series circuit, based on whether or not the lamp is part of a complete loop with a battery

• recognise that a switch opens and closes a circuit • recognise some common conductors and

insulators, and associate metals with being good conductors
