BE PREPARED The Nerang Mountain Bike Trails are outdoors, so prepare for all weather conditions. Ensure you’re wearing comfortable clothing and closed footwear. Please note there will be no storage facilities available for this event so try to avoid bringing strollers.
Cycling - Mountain BikingFearless riders navigate treacherous terrain, all in pursuit of gold.
Combining technique, speed and endurance, Mountain Bike is the untamed cousin of Track and Road Cycling. Competitors will complete a specified number of laps of the purpose-built course, involving strenuous climbs and technical descents. While the sport of mountain biking features a range of disciplines, the cross-country discipline will be contested at GC2018.
Fast Facts • The GC2018 Mountain Bike course is
approximately 4.5km long.• If something breaks on the mountain bike, cyclists
must fix it themselves or get to the Technical Assistance Zone where team mechanics can help.
• The mountain bike event made its debut at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games and has featured at the Melbourne 2006 and Glasgow 2014 Games.
• Unlike the smooth-bottomed shoes used in road cycling, mountain bike shoes have gripping soles, similar to hiking boots.
