Examining variety and good practice in renal anaemia management

Tom Crocker – PhD student

medtcro@leeds.ac.uk

The collaborative project

• Improving everyone’s process• Examine your own process and share what you find• Making protocols and using the website

• Ambiguity in protocols – Hard to interpret– Implicit assumptions– Can be dangerous

Example of ambiguity

• Examination of care pathways for eGov 07 conference– One example

• Do A, then either B or C?• Do A, then both B and C?• Can B and C be done at the same time?

My project

• I want to help improve processes and understanding in renal anaemia management

• I will map the processes in 12 renal units– Several days observation and some informal interviews– Model developed in correspondence with the unit

• Examine the similarities and differences• Relationship with performance measures?• Feed back to units• Evaluate effects

• Can I have some volunteers please!
