UOG in November

The November issue of Ultrasound in Obstetrics& Gynecology includes a systematic review onthe outcome of non-visualization of the fetalgallbladder on second-trimester ultrasound, acost-effectiveness analysis of five prenatalscreening strategies for trisomies and otherunbalanced chromosomal abnormalities, a studyon the prediction of adverse perinatal outcomeby serum placental growth factor and solublefms-like tyrosine kinase-1 in women undergoinginduction of labor, and a study on the impact ofplacenta previa with placenta accreta spectrumdisorder on fetal growth.

Upcoming ISUOG Educationcourses

We will be hosting the 'Endometriosis andgynecologic oncology: do they have somethingin common?' course in London on 29 November2019. The course can be attended on site or vialive stream. This will be our final course for theyear, but, we have plenty more coming up in2020 including two joint courses with SMFM inthe USA on management of twins and makingbest use of ultrasound in pregnancy, a course onfetal echocardiography and one on perinataldoppler and vascular imagery.

All our upcoming courses are available to livestream, which allows you to attend the coursefrom anywhere in the world. By live streaming,you can participate in the course in real time, askyour questions, participate in discussions,receive your certificate of attendance, and alsore-watch the course for a month after the course.

Basic Training

This month, Basic Training returned to Colombiafor part two of the successful course in Medellin;The Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasound inGreater Depth: Fetal Anomalies andGynecology, on November 8th and 9th. Thereare also several Basic Training courses comingup around the world in 2020 that will bedelivered in English.

ISUOG Outreach travelled to Rwanda for the firsttime to initiate Phase 1 of our programme inconjunction with the Ministry of Health. Over 5days, 4 international volunteers worked with 25trainees new to ultrasound in Obstetrics andGynecology. In this time alone, the trainees wereable to identify 5 ectopic pregnancies, polycysticovaries, preeclampsia and placenta praeviaamongst other diagnosis, demonstrating theirnew skills. Patient Information Series

ISUOG launched its Patient Information Series inBerlin. The aim of the series is to provideanswers to the why, how and what now, and tohelp breakdown gynecological and obstetricalconditions in simple, easy to understandlanguage for the benefit of women and theirfamilies. New partnership: ENTOG-ISUOG

ISUOG has entered into a partnership with theEuropean Network of Trainees in Obstetrics andGynaecology (ENTOG) to collaborate on globalprojects, education programmes and events,particularly around the ISUOG Basic Training forUltrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, thetrainee partnership and other ISUOG activitiesand resources. A Memorandum ofUnderstanding was signed by Katia Bilardo,President of ISUOG, and Agnieszka Horała, theSecretary General of ENTOG, at the 29th WorldCongress on Ultrasound in Obstetrics andGynecology in Berlin.

Committee appointmentsMeet our new Chairs for VISUOG Task force, Clinical Standards Committee and Outreach

Committee

Dr. Karen Fung-Kee-Fung, MD, FRCS, MHPEhas been appointed the new Chair of theVISUOG Task force. Karen Fung-Kee-Fung, hasbeen a member of ISUOG since 1990 andserves on the CME Task Force for ISUOG. Shehas had a long-standing career in academicMaternal Fetal Medicine and GynecologicalUltrasound at the University of Ottawa, Ontario,Canada, for the past 30 years.

Lisbet Hanson, MD, FACOG has beenappointed as the Chair of the OutreachCommittee. She has been a member of ISUOGfor 10 years. Dr. Hanson is a certified Da VinciRobotics Surgeon, is the founding MedicalDirector of Women’s Health and Chair of thesurgical robotics program at Sentara VirginiaBeach General Hospital, and is AssistantProfessor at the Eastern Virginia MedicalSchool. She has a keen interest in theapplication of innovative technology in theadvancement of health outcomes and hasreceived numerous awards on the local, stateand national level recognizing her contributionsto community service and women’s health.

Federico Prefumo has been appointed Chair ofthe Clinical Standards Committee. Heis currently Associate Professor at the Universityof Brescia, Italy, and Consultant Obstetrician atSpedali Civili di Brescia Hospital. His clinicaland research interests include Doppler andbiochemical screening of pregnancycomplications (pre-eclampsia, fetal growthrestriction), ultrasonographic and biochemicalscreening of aneuploidies, maternalcardiovascular function in pregnancy andmanagement of complicated twin pregnancies.
