Year 7 Parent Information Evening

2015

Welcome

iPads in Year 7?

• All students will receive an iPad just before half term to assist them in their learning

• They will be allowed to bring that learning device home

• No games

Aims of tablet eLearning1:1 scheme’s primary focus is to assist:

students shape their own learning

You still have books, you still have teachers, you still have written assessed work. What can you do in the middle to improve outcomes?

iPads can assist students: find information, formulate ideas, collaborate etc etc BEFORE the final piece of work

Students shaping their own learning

achieve• Students have choice over resources to use• Students choose where to learn• Students have to negotiate with each other to decide on the

direction of the learning• Students choose how to present their findings• Students make suggestions to me about what they do next• I act as tutor to small groups/individuals:

= personalisation, choice and voice

By providing lesson resources & learning outcomes online students can tackle activities in an order they choose, spending more time on what they feel they need to, continually checking what they need to do next. They can personalise the context of that learning, consolidate understanding and extend their knowledge.

They can take their learning outside of the classroom and still have access to resources.

Students can use technology to collaborate on activities, both within and outside of the classroom.

They can use technology (or not) to present their understanding in a manner which suits their learning style best.

Allowing students to work independently means that teachers can work with small groups and assist their particular needs, continually checking understanding.
