OUTCOME 3: USING LAGUAGE TO PERSUADE

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

• You need to make connections between the language of the writer and the effect of the language on readers.

• Why might this be an important skill? • Is is even more important for people who

speak English as a second language? Why/ why not?

WHEN AND HOW WILL YOU DO THIS?

1.Note form summary2. Explanation of how language and visuals have been used to persuade about 3 of the main points in the summary• (Task material approx. 350 words + visuals)• 27 minutes/27 minutes• 30% exam

HOW CAN YOU GET BETTER AT IT?

1. NOTE FORM SUMMARIESFirst you need to understand the criteriaMarking scheme: 5 marks= 5 main points3 marks= clarity and conciseness 2 marks= NFS conventions
