IF YOU THINK YOU CAN…. OR IF YOU THINK YOU CAN’T
YOU’RE RIGHT
Our greatest challenge this year will be to push at the barriers created in our children’s mind:
3 easy questions• What do you want?
• How much do you want it?
• What are you going to do about it?
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step …

If you only do what you’ve always done…………
you’ll only get what you’ve always got
It is through success in education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm
workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not
what we are given, that separates one person from another.

Attendance
• 90% attendance = ½ day missed each week!• 1 school year at 90% = 4 weeks of school missed (96
lessons)!• 90% attendance over 5 years = ½ a school year
missed!
• Research suggests that 17 missed school days in a year = 1 GCSE grade drop in achievement in each subject
• Simply – the greater the attendance the greater the achievement
• Colleges and employers will want to know about a students attendance record
Lateness
• When a student arrives late to lesson it is not just their learning that is affected, it is the whole classes
• Frequent lateness can add up to a considerable amount of learning lost
Minutes late per day during the school year
Equals days worth of teaching lost in a year
5 minutes 3.4 days
10 minutes 6.9 days
15 minutes 10.3 days
