Being Positive

OThink Positive: I can, I am, I do, I will…

OAct Positive: I feel terrific

OQuestion Positive: What can I learn from this?

ORemain Positive: Get support and reward yourself!

Revision Don't leave your revision until the last minute.

If you haven't already, start revising now.

Be selfish!

Revise with the exam in mind!

Make sure you know what to expect in the exam:How many papers will I take?

How many questions should I answer? How long is the exam?

Understand marking criteria!

Revision TimetableO These are essential:

O Avoid rushingO Self –disciplineO Share revision time between subjectsO Keep up to date with revisionO Get right balance between revision

and leisure time

What to do:O Establish what bite size chunks you

need to revise for each subjectO Put them onto a timetableO Aim for 1-3 hours per day (break into

manageable chunks)O Stick to it!O Prepare revision cards (if helpful!)O Don’t forget to reward yourself!

Active revision means…

O Mind mapsO Writing notesO Reading notes aloudO Recording key points on an iPodO Discussing topics with friendsO Getting others to test youO Trying past papersO Use revision websites

Mind maps

O

Post-its

Revision Cards

The best revision methods involve

being active! So don’t just sit there-

DO SOMETHING!

A sample one

Revision Success 1ORevision timetable: Draw

up a revision timetable - it's crucial. It should be realistic, cover all subjects and allow you time off to relax

Revision Success 2

OMake notes: Don't just read through your class work, make notes. One useful tip is to gradually condense your notes so they fit on the back of a postcard.

Revision Success 3ORevision guides: Get a

recommendation from your teacher as to which are most useful and then make sure you use them!

Revision Success 4OQuestions and answers:

Write out some questions and answers to see how much you're actually remembering

Revision Success 5OListen in: Read your notes

onto a cassette and then play them walking down the street or whilst you're in bed.

Revision Success 6OPrompts: Put key words

and phrases on sticky notes around the house, so you'll see them often

Revision Success 7OSeek help!: Don't go it

alone. They say a problem shared is a problem halved. So, get friends and family on board to help you revise.

Revision Success 8OPast papers: Make sure

you get hold of some past papers, they're a really good way of knowing what to expect in the exam.

Revision Success 9ORelax: If you panic you're

lost! The exams are going to happen so you might as well give yourself the best chance of doing well by starting to revise early and keeping calm.

Revision Success 10OBe positive!
