GEOMETRY IN THE REAL WORLD PROJECTTHEME: ARCHITECTURE

POINT:

The geometric figure formed at the intersection of two lines.

LINE (SEGMENT):

All points between two given points (including the given points themselves).

PLANE:

A flat surface extending in all directions.

PERPENDICULAR LINES:

Lines that intersect in a 90 degree angle.

PARALLEL LINES:

Two distinct coplanar lines that don’t intersect.

TRIANGLE:

A polygon with three sides.

RIGHT TRIANGLE:

A triangle which has a right (90 degree) interior angle.

PENTAGON:

A polygon with five sides.

HEXAGON:

A polygon with six sides.

SQUARE:

A rectangle with all four sides of equal length (90 degrees each).

RECTANGLE:

A quadrilateral with four congruent angles (90 degrees).

TRAPEZOID:

A quadrilateral which has a pair of opposite sides which are parallel.

PARALLELOGRAM:

A quadrilateral with with two pairs of parallel sides.

CIRCLE:

The locus of all points that are a fixed distance from a given point.

CYLINDER:

A 3D geometric figure with parallel congruent bases.

SPHERE:

A 3D solid consisting of all points equidistant from a given point.

ACUTE TRIANGLE

A triangle for which all interior angles are acute.

OBTUSE TRIANGLE

A triangle which has an obtuse angle as one of its interior angles.
