The library staff and I are excited and looking forward to helping you with all

library’s goal is to provide the best service to our customers. We pride
ourselves with offering user-friendly services both online and in the library.
We promise that when you come into our library you will leave feeling that
you accomplished your purpose for visiting the library. We will help you get
what you came for or provide information on when or how you can get the
particular information or item.
We are happy to provide e-books, as well as print books, books on CD, music
CD’s, DVD’s and current popular publications and newspapers for check out.
Your library card allows you to access our databases purchased especially for
our customers. Check out the electronic resources on the web site.
I invite you to visit our library facility or connect to our website services and
allow us to assist you in meeting your informational needs. The entire library
staff is ready to help you enjoy your library visit. We look forward to seeing
you soon. Since this is our November and December newsletter, I say Seasons

Message from the Director
Children’s Annual Christmas Party
Tis’ the season to have a party! Join the Wyandanch Public Library as we
celebrate the joy of the season during our Annual Children’s Christmas
Party . We have a festive day planned filled with holiday storytime, music,
games and prizes. We also have special guests stopping by; Linda Humes,
renowned storyteller, will help us celebrate with a special performance of
multicultural stories and songs. Saturday, December 14th at 11:00 am.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire staff at the
Wyandanch Public Library, we would like to take the opportunity to
wish everyone a safe and Happy Holiday Season. We thank you for your
continuous support of our library and the services we provide.

Children’s Programs
Little Learners (Ages 0-5)
Little Learners, come grow with us! We’re a special group
for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Our activities
focus on reading readiness, STEM, parent child bonding,
and FUN! Watch for these upcoming programs.
Babies & Books– It’s never too early to develop a love of
the library! This 20 minute program will introduce babies
to words and sounds through fun finger plays, rhymes,
music, and movement! For ages birth –2 years with a
parent or caregiver.
Tales for Tots– Get your child ready for kindergarten. This
30 minute program will foster your child’s early literacy
skills through stories, songs, finger plays, and fun
activities. For ages 3-5.
Pre-K Drop-In Craft– Drop-in for a craft! The Librarian
will have all the supplies ready, all you need is your
imagination!

Kids Club (Grades 1-5)
Join the Kids Club! Our club focuses on building
intellectual, social, and self-esteem building skills through
STEM, reading, multicultural , art , and community
service programming.
After School Craft– Drop-in after school for some crafting
fun!
Electro Extravaganza– Learn all about electricity! You
will be shocked as we use tiny little pieces of matter to do
some pretty cool stuff. Learn about the secrets of electricity
revealed to science. We will find out how electricity runs
your gadgets and toys. Tuesday, Nov. 12th at 4:00 pm
Thankful Turkeys– Join us for a special Thanksgiving
themes storytime. We’ll share our favorite holiday stories
and craft our own turkey art.

Kids Club (Grades 1-5) cont.
Mutt-i-gree Movie– Join us for a special movie starring
some of your favorite MUTTS!
Friday, November 15th at 3:30 pm.
Top Turkey: A Thanksgiving Math Game– Are you the
Top Turkey? We challenge you to the Top Turkey math
game. Roll the dice and the librarian will ask you to add or
subtract the numbers. Whoever has the highest sum wins!

Mutt-i-gree Academy: Each Dog has a Story– As we’ve
learned at Mutt-i-gree Academy, each must has their own
special story. Bring your imagination for this special
creative writing workshop where you will create your own
Mutt-i-gree Shorty. Friday, November 22nd at 4:00 pm
Compliment Collages– Together, you and me, let’s build
our self-esteem! Bring a friend or meet a new one to this
confidence building activity and make a special
Compliment Collage.
Wednesday, December 11th at 3:30 pm
Mutt-i-gree Academy: A Day in the Life of An Animal
Rescuer– Wonder what it’s like to be a real -life animal
rescuer? Join us for a special visit with Unchained NY, a
local animal advocate organization! Volunteers will be
here to speak with us about how to properly care and bond
with animals, as well as about their firsthand experiences
as animal rescuers. Tuesday, December 12th at 4:00 pm
Engineer a Spider Web– Join us in learning all about
geometry of spider webs and with the help of your friends
make your very own! Tuesday, December 17th at 4:00 pm
Early Literacy Academy– The program is led by Early
Literacy Coordinator, LaFlorence Grant; she helps
children gain knowledge through various computer
developmental applications, allowing them to excel in
school.

TEAM TWEEN- (For age 9-12)
Join TEAM TWEEN with your friends for cool activities,
learning, and fun made especially for TWEENS!
Teen Drama Club-Join the Drama Club every Thursday
for an evening of improvisations, skits, theatre games and
dance. Every Thursday at 6:00 pm
Paper Airplane Lab– Who doesn’t love flying paper
airplanes? Test your engineering skills by constructing
your own airplanes, testing out their designs, and
comparing your results.
Tuesday, November 5th at 5:00 pm
Leaf Rubbing Art– Discover the beauty nature has to offer.
During this hands-on activity we will use both are
scientific and artistic skills to create our very own leaf
rubbing art. Thursday, November 7th at 4:00 pm
Dazzling Dream Catchers– In honor of Native American
Heritage Month, we will learn all about the legends and
customs of dream catchers in Native American culture by
crafting our own. Thursday, November 21st at 4:00 pm
Craft a Holiday Card- “Tis the Season!” Craft special
holiday greeting card to send to your family and friends.

Native American Dance Troupe– In honor of Native
America Heritage month the library will be hosting a
Native American Dance Troupe to teach us about Native

win a prize and become Wyandanch’s Video Game Champ

cheer. Decorate their very own holiday ornament to take

Conversational Spanish Class– Each week Ms. Sylvia will
teach popular words and phrases used in Spanish
conversations. With practice you will be able to navigate a
conversation in Spanish. Register at the Reference Desk.

Medicare Made Easy– Join Ms. Cantone from Family
Financial Service for a workshop designed to take the
“confusion” out of all the options available so you are able
to make choices that are “Right” for you.

Star of Bethlehem– The Star of Bethlehem has left its
mark on the gospels as well as on a constellation of holiday
songs. Join Astrophysicist, Dr. Kevin Manning to find out
if it was an astronomical event or a scientific miracle.

High Energy Zumba– Ditch the work-out, just lose
yourself in the music, while getting in shape. Join
Ms. Evita, Licensed Zumba Instructor as she takes you on
an energy workout ride.

Adult Book Club– We will discuss Will Hargood’s “The
Butler: A Witness to History. The story ignited the
imagination of a nation and the inspiration behind the
highly acclaimed motion picture “Lee Daniels’ The
Butler”. Join us as we experience history through the eyes
of the butler, Eugene Allen, an African American who
served as butler to eight U.S. Presidents. Pick up your book
at the Reference Desk. Tuesday, November 19th , 6:00 pm
Classic Movie: “Mahogany”- Mahogany (Diana Ross)
traces the life of a poor girl who makes it in the fashion
world (first as a model who makes it in the fashion world,
then designer) and deserts her boyfriend (Billy Dee
Williams) in the meantime, hooking up instead with
photographer (Anthony Perkins) . The song “Do You
Know When You’re Going To” received an Oscar
nomination. Come early to get the best seats.

Holiday Concert– Come and listen to great songs and
entertainment, to bring a sense of realism and warmth to
your holidays. Bring the entire family.

Classic Movie: “Sparkle”-Sparkle is a timeless story of the
bonds of family, the trials of success and the power of
music. Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) is a young woman whose
big dreams seem almost impossible. She’s been warned
against the pitfalls of the music industry by her protective
mother (Whitney Houston), yet encouraged by the
handsome and ambitious Stix (Derek Luke). Sparkle forms
a trio with her sisters (Tika Sumpter and Carmen Ejogo).
Together, they perform the soul-stirring songs that Sparkle

Kwanzaa Program– Join Dr. Pamela Robinson-Allen as
she explains the meaning and symbols of Kwanzaa.
Kwanzaa is a unique African-American celebration with a
focus on the traditional African values of family,
community responsibility, commerce and
self-improvement. Come and be inspired.

Santa’s Helpers Wanted– We are seeking volunteers to
help during the holiday season with gift wrapping and
stocking stuffing for our Annual Children’s Christmas

Storyfaces Totem Tales: Native American Tales of
Transformation and Wonder– In honor of Native
American Heritage Month, join us for a performance by
Storyface author and artist, Christopher! During the show,
Native American folktales will be brought to life with a
playful style of storytelling illustrated by his amazing face
painting on audience volunteers.
