• Daily goal(s): Understand the significance of the following terms: Battle of the Bulge, V-E day, V-J Day, Harry Truman, Firebombing, Manhattan Project, United Nations and Nuremberg Trials.

Battle of the Bulge

• The German’s created a large bulge in the American lines during their last desperate attempt to stop the invading allies.

• The Americans ultimately won the Battle and now little stopped them from invading Germany.

V-E Day

• The Nazis signed an unconditional surrender which marked Victory in Europe- V-E Day.

Tokyo Firebombing

• To make sure their targets were destroyed America began dropping incendiary bombs filled w/ Napalm on Japan, which burned down entire cities.

The Manhattan Project

• Secret American program that developed the first atomic bomb.

• Beginning of the Nuclear Age.

Unconditional Surrender

• President Truman ordered the first Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, then a second on Nagasaki.

• The Japanese then agreed to an unconditional surrender.

• Victory over Japan- V-J Day.

United Nations (UN)

• Stalin and FDR agree to split Germany and create the UN to avoid another World War.

Nuremberg Trials

• The Japanese and Nazi leaders were charged with War Crimes.
