1/5
A Very Good Morning/Afternoon one and all, I am ____________ studying in _______
class would like to share my views on the Topic Todays Young Generation.
I hope you all remember the American President Barack Obama and First
Lady Michelle Obama after they visited The Taj Hotel, they went to one of Mumbais
top colleges i.e St. Xavier's College to meet Young Students of the City. One may
feel why is he doing, why he is meeting young Students like is?? The importance is
known by the fact that India is the second most populous country in the world, with
over 1.21 billion people (2011 census), more than a sixth of the world's population.
Already containing 17.5% of the world's population, India is projected to be the
world's most populous country by 2025, surpassing China, its population reaching
1.6 billion by 2050.
India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than
65% hovers below the age of 35. It is expected that, in 2020, the average age of an
Indian will be 29 years, compared to 37 for China and 48 for Japan; and, by 2030. So
it is clear that todays youth is going to write the future of the Nation and next super
power after USA. So the President of America in such important visit to India met
Students as spread the right message and to ensure the youth is on a right track.
In this 21st Century the youth today have great access to Information thanks
to evolution of Technologies giving birth to Iphones, Ipads., 3G Serivices,Wifi hub
and what not. So the Youth or shall I say Generation Y has so much more than

what our oldies had few decades ago. So lets look at some of the Positives
Generation Y:
1. They Like to Live Life King Size: - Everything they want is all big and no
small items would fill their lives. They want to have best of the Luxuries
and enjoy every moment of it.
2. They have lot of confidence: - Generation Y have the exuberance and
zeal to perform activities in the best of their abilities and they generally
not very worried about the outcome, so end up giving their 100% and are
full of confidence just like me!!!!
3. They have abilities to create more opportunities: - Another major
distinction of the Generation Y is that they try to find their own ways
and means to do things. They are more creative and they try to find more
options or shall I say opportunities for them to go up in life.
4. They are open to talk and understand and learn lot of things: - As we
spoke that the Generation Y are able to create more opportunities for
themselves. So how do they do it?? Well they dont shy to ask more and
more questions and very open to discuss, learn and execute new things.
They have to enthusiasm to perform and try to outperform that what is
expected that is because they learn lot of things in very short period of
time. I shall give u a example, Few days back I played the songs of
Rockstar movie at home for two consecutive days and the next day I
started singing the songs and my Dad is like how do u do it?? Well thats
the Generation Y for you..

5. They are adapting and adopting the globalization/ globalized culture: -
Well the oldies had a very narrow minded mindset and were not very keen
to change anything that is against the culture. Well the Generation Y are
very open to new ideas, cultures or following the western culture and
having a mix of Best of Indian and Western Cultures. They dont mind
making changes in life and want to enjoy this moment to the best and
mostly live in the present.
6. They are willing to relocate and start fresh: - As I said the Generation Y
want to live this moment more than think more about the future. Thats
because they are not just worried to start thing afresh in life. They Love to
take up challenges and dont mind taking up tuff challenges.
Well enough of talking good about our Generation Y, now lets see some of
the problems:
1. Generation Y frequently change their jobs; hence, they seem to
be less committed and oldies doubt their integrity as well.
Youngies argued: Before finding a career of their choice and
interest, we want to take 4 to 5 risks in terms of jobs. Once we get it
we stick to that organisation for life time. E.g. Ashish did is CFA from
top Management institute in India. He went to Australia to work as
organisation Head, but came back. Later he joined AXA and now he is
happy with his career. Before that he tried jobs in India and abroad and
finally landed in this job, settled by now
2. They lack patience and persistence.

Youngies argued: No. We believe patience spoils the dynamism of
life and may kill the business itself. It may spoil career and even
can make life stagnant. Patience is required in growing but patience
does not required for taking decision and getting work done. Also
we do not want to commit mistake that our past generation did.
3. They are too anxious and want to know much more than they
should.
Youngies argued: No. We won't do anything which does not fit in
our ethics. If someone hides something we believe that hiding
means something fishy is there. That is why Right to Information
Act and Compulsory Disclosure are there. Transparency is the way
of life and business today. Even 100 Billion Dollars Organizations
have transparency in all their transactions, then why not the
business I/we are in should be that transparent?
4. They are more willing to earn fast money. Higher the degree more
is the lust for money. More from the business background more the
requirement for money.
5. . They do not respect older generation.
So as u see the Generation Y have a tuff time ahead, as they have to balance
their lives with the best of the things as their acts now will create the foundation for
the coming generations.

I would like to end by saying this famous quote by John Erskine: Lets tell young
people the best books are yet to written; the best painting, the best government the
best of everything is yet to be done by them.
Or by Samuel Johnson: The desire of advising has a very extensive
prevalence; and, since advice cannot be given but to those that will hear it, a
patient listener is necessary to the accommodation of all those who desire to be
confirmed in the opinion of their own wisdom: a patient listener, however, is not
always to be had; the present age, whatever age is present, is so vitiated and
disordered, that young people are readier to talk than to attend, and good counsel
is only thrown away upon those who are full of their own perfections.
