* Talking over your options with parents is important, but ultimately the choice should be yours!

* Taking a language just because your friends choose it isn’t the best approach.

Things to Know Before Registering for a Language:

Things to Know Before Registering for a Language:

• People lose the ability to learn a language as they get older, so start your language as soon as possible.

• At CHS, students can take up to four years of French, German or Spanish.

• Each level is divided into two sections: A and B. You must register for both sections during the same school year.

(Ex: German 1A & 1B the same year.)• Students should complete 2 years of one

world language before considering another, and not take 2 languages at the same time.

• There is no prerequisite for beginning a language, but we recommend that students have an English grade of C- or higher. • The prerequisite to continue in language

classes is a grade of C- or higher in the previous world language class.

• Honors options are available to students in levels 3 and 4 of each language.

To prepare for college:

• Most four-year colleges and universities require students take two to four years of a world language in high school.

• Studies show that students who study a second language usually get better scores on standardized tests (ACT, SAT).

• We offer the opportunity to earn college credit in some advanced courses.

Why Study a World Language?

To gain real life communication skills:

• Businesses prefer hiring people who are able to

communicate in a second language and who are comfortable working with people from diverse cultures.

• Increasing numbers of people travel around the world for work and leisure. We provide students the opportunity to travel in an educational program that often includes a homestay.
