At certain times in history, events come together that

transform the future.

Essential questions often begin with what, who, or when.

Why are symbols important for national identity?

What symbols were used during the French Revolution? How were the symbols

created? Why were the symbols influential?

Inquiry questions break down the essential question.

While the French used symbols from the ancient past to representfreedom and liberty, at the same time they felt they were creating a bridge

to the future by using these symbols in a new way.
