Hockey Helps the Homeless Hockey Helps the Homeless came to RIM Park on October 27, 2017. All
proceeds from the tournament are distributed to 5 local homeless sup-
port agencies: House of Friendship, YWCA, One Roof Youth Services,
HHUG (Homelessness and Housing Umbrella Group), and Lutherwood.
These agencies work together to provide comprehensive support to the
homeless of all ages, genders, and backgrounds - women and families,
youth, and adults
In Waterloo Region, an estimated 3,492 individuals are living in emer-
gency shelters and another 2,719 households are on a housing waitlist
(2013 Homeless Hub survey).
This year, the Piller’s Waterloo Wolves Alumni team raised $10,305.
The tournament itself as a whole raised an incredible $201,118.36! This
is an increase by over $45,000 from 2016.
Each team had a former NHLer playing for them. By the time
the first puck dropped there were 227 hockey players and 19
NHLers & Olympians invading RIM Park in support of HHTH.
The Wolves’ alumni team was honoured to be partnered with
retired Montreal Canadien and 1993 Stanley Cup winner, Gilbert
Dionne. (pictured right with Wolves alum Colin Way)
Former Wolves’ coach and alumni parents, Rob and Michele
Way, are instrumental in bringing Hockey Helps the Homeless to
Waterloo. Congratulations Rob, Michele and HHTH volunteers.
Hockey Helps the Homeless, a nationwide initiative, started in
1996. The next Hockey Helps the Homeless (KW) will be held at
RIM Park on Friday, October 26, 2018.
Wolves alum Jaxon Camp (2015-2016) is playing for
the Burlington Cougars Jr A team (OJHL). Have a
great season, Jaxon!
