MOVING THE FUTURE
Schuler wind turbines profitable and cost-effective
Our innovative wind turbine driveline concept is designed with
a direct drive (without a gear unit) for a 2.7 MW permanent-
magnet synchronous generator. This design achieves excellent
efciency, especially operating under partial-load, combined
with reduced maintenance requirements throughout its entire
service life.
The overall design offers a variable-speed generator / converter
system with electrical adjustment of individual blades, and
performs with maximum energy yield and high efciency. The
ground-breaking concept, which is engineered with an innovative
design, allows Schuler SDD 100 systems to be optimally inte-
grated into the power grid. The converter concept ensures power
system compatibility, permitting powerful and high-speed active
and reactive power control, thereby providing the prerequisites
to maintain power system stability.
Permanent-magnet synchronous generatorHigh partial-load efciency
High power ux density
Compact construction
Closed cooling circuit; no contact between the electrical
system and outside air
Advance-controlled power converterStatCom function (reactive power infeed possible even
without active power)
Power system stabilization (dynamic frequency and voltage
stabilization)
Low-voltage ride through
The high-performance turbine meets the requirements of
EEG 2009 and the SDL-WindV regulations.
EEG (Renewable Energy Act) requirements 2009, SDLWindV
(System Service Ordinance)The Schuler concept offers outstanding properties for riding
through voltage dips during power system disruptions. Not only
can it cope with critical situations caused by power system
short circuits or supply bottlenecks, but it can also perform
reactive power management and voltage control.
Easier maintenanceAccess to the hub and spinner via hollow axle shafts for
servicing the pitch drives
Maintenance-free permanent-magnet synchronous generator
without sliprings / brushes
Straightforward installationIntegration of all components in assembly units (< 90 tons)
Low installation / removal costs thanks to exchangeable power
electronics and transformer in the base of the mast
Low noise emissions
Increased availabilityLess likely to suffer from malfunctions because there is no
gear unit
Fewer anti-friction bearings
No gearing and fewer components exposed to tribological
stresses
Faster startup at low temperatures
Lower friction effects in the driveline
Electric pitch adjustment
Low lifecycle costsLower maintenance expenses
No oil change, no oil lter replacement
Grease lubrication for anti-friction bearings
Lower condition monitoring expenses
Fewer vibration sensors due to smaller number of bearings
No need for lubrication sensors (temperature, pressure,
particles)
Less need for auxiliary power units and backup power supplies
No crane and repair costs for gear unit renewal
More favorable insurance terms
