THE CREATIVE CURRICULUM
@ ST. JOHN’S
Why is Creativity Important?
Creativity improves pupils' self-esteem, motivation and achievement
Pupils who are encouraged to think creatively and independently become:
more inquisitive and interested in discovering things for themselves
more open to new ideas
keen to work with others to explore ideas and solve problems
willing to work beyond lesson time when pursuing an idea or interest
excited about their learning, achieve high standards and develop confidence and positive self-esteem
The ‘Cornerstones Philosophy’ delivers through Imaginative Learning Projects
(ILP’s). Each ‘ILP’ has a lead subject driving the project with many cross curricular
links. English underpins all the ILPs enabling children to read and write in a
variety of genres for different purposes which are all linked to the class theme:

CURRENT YEAR GROUP TOPICS
Our ‘unique perspective’ ‘Learning beyond the
classroom’
Learning with ‘experts’ in the
classroom
• We never miss an opportunity to take
learning out of school
• ‘The world is our oyster.’ London & the
Home Counties have so much to offer
& we can (& do) go everywhere……….
• …… because we have 2 minibuses –
which we couldn’t have bought without
the PTFA (£10,000)!
• We like to learn from ‘experts in their
field;’ if we don’t ‘go to them, we make
sure that they come to us!
• We run workshops in school on all
sorts of subjects – science, drama,
maths, literacy, geography, history,
environmental studies, music, art, and
technology to name just a few!
So, where do we go and what have
we done (& this is just the last 2.5
years in EYFS & KS1 & NOT our
school based workshops!)?
