Twinkie® Physics

A child is wholewithin their skin. This is like a Twinkie®

snack cake in it’scellophane wrapper.Unfortunately manyparents allow theirchild to sit in a vehiclesecured by onlythe safety belt. Theydo this because they think the law allows it,because the parent is“ready” for the childto get out of thechild restraint, andbecause the child nolonger wants to use achild restraint.

weight x speed = crash forceA 60 lb child at 10 mph = 600

lbs of force against the safety belt.

This force is akin to crushing a Twinkie® between

two fingers. The skin remains whole but theinside is never quite the same again.
