North-Western Sydney Joomla! MeetupPresented by Tim Plummer

New release strategy
• 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, …… 3.10• No more STS & LTS• Moving from Calendar based releases (every 6
months) to Feature based releases (when they are ready, possibly every month or so)
• Don’t wait until Joomla 3.5, upgrade now!
Advantages of new release strategy
• No more feature bombardment in the week prior to release
• Features can go in when they are ready (Google Summer of Code)
• No need to break everything and go to Joomla 4 just for the sake of it.
• Every major release resets support clock – (2 years)
What this means for you
• Longer lifespan of Joomla 3• Ongoing incremental improvements• New features better tested and documented• No more waiting, use Joomla 3 now!– Note EOL Joomla 2.5 is still December 2014
“Most stable Joomla! release, ever”
Current PHP Technical Requirements
New System Requirements
• 3.3+ requires PHP 5.3.10+• Due to this, Joomla 3.2 will

• 3.2.4 is targeted for users with PHP 5.3.1 – 5.3.9 and includes all bug fixes from 3.3.0
