WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW JESUS?
You can have peace and find hope and know
forgiveness through a personal relationship with
Jesus Christ.
You can receive Christ right now by faith through
prayer. Praying is simply talking to God. God knows
your heart and is not so concerned with your words as
He is with the attitude of your heart. Here's a suggested
prayer:
Lord Jesus, I want to know You
personally. Thank You for dying on the
cross for my sins. I open the door of my
life to You and ask You to come in as my
Saviour and Lord. Take control of my
life. Thank You for forgiving my sins
and giving me eternal life. Bring peace
to my world this Christmas. Make me
the kind of person You want me to be.
If this prayer expresses the desire of your heart, pray it
right now and Christ will come into your life as He
promised. If you invited Jesus Christ into your life,
thank God often that He is in your life, that He will
never leave you and that you have eternal life.
Food For Thought
Where is your Bethlehem? Has the path been long, the
people uncaring, the circumstances burdensome?
When we submit ourselves as servants to a loving God,
we can - in quietness and confidence - add “May it be
to me as you have said” no matter the place or position
in which we find ourselves.

St. Joseph the Worker Parish
Our Mission Party Fr. Charles Irvin (excerpt)
B ack in the late 1800’s John Henry Cardinal Newman was
an Anglican priest who later became a Catholic priest and
was later made a Cardinal of the Church by Pope Leo
XIII. Early in his journey through life Newman wrestled
with the question of what God was doing with his life. Newman
wrote a prayer about that and I want to share it with you now.
God has created me to do Him some definite service; He has
committed some work to me which He has not committed to another.
I have my mission - I may never know it in this life, but I shall be
told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection
between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good,
I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth
in my own place while not intending it - if I do but keep His
commandments. Therefore I will trust Him, whatever, wherever I
am. I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness
may serve Him; in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him; If I am
in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He
knows what He is about. He may take away my friends; He may
throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my
spirits sink, hide my future from me - still He knows what He is
about.
When all is said and done we all struggle, no matter what our station
in life may be, with questions about the meaning and purpose of our
lives. Ultimately the answer is a matter of faith, something we must
leave in the hands of God. But whether or not we have an answer is
not really important. What is important, and what is central to
everything, is that we have faith, faith in which we place ourselves
and our lives into the hands of God who loves us, knowing that, as
Cardinal Newman said, God knows what He is about.

THE CANDLE OF PEACE
R EJOICE in our dignity as sons and daughters of the Father in Christ. To
evangelize is to announce the Lord’s offer of salvation through both word and
witness. It means opening the way to peace and forgiveness, charity and justice.
Since Our Lord was anointed to bring “good news to the poor” (Luke 4.18), evan-
gelization must embrace an appreciation and sharing of the beauty of life and the
goods of this world.
St. Kateri offers the Church a special opportunity to deepen our awareness of the Indigenous
People, to thank God for them, and to seek the grace of reconciliation. We are told that when
Kateri died, God healed the physical ravages of smallpox on her face and restored her beauty.
More importantly, God desires to heal the wounds of our hearts and spirits, and does so by the
grace of his mercy. By thus reconciling us to himself, God leads us to a healing of all that separates
us from one another and creation.
In his homily to open the Year of Faith, Pope Benedict XVI invited each of us during these coming
months to rediscover “the joy of believing” and to share the hope that springs from faith. In
response to humanity’s thirst for God and the ultimate meaning of life, people of faith “point out
the way to the Promised Land and keep hope alive,” he said. “Living faith opens the heart to the
grace of God which frees us from pessimism.” By witnessing to new life in Christ and being
transformed by God, we learn “the wisdom of the wayfarer” who “has learned the art of living and
can share it” with others.
This Christmas, let us thankfully accept and generously share these three wonderful gifts: the
golden treasure of evangelization; the perfumed myrrh of reconciliation; and the ascending
frankincense of faith. May our prayers and trust in God envelope us in holy love and care for one
another.
This is my prayer for you and your families this Christmas and throughout the coming year.
Taken from His Grace Richard W. Smith’s homily - Archbishop of Edmonton
