What does Jesus think about prayer?

Matthew 6:5-13

The most important thing about prayer is the kind of

God we pray to.

1. Our God does not answer hypocritical or mechanical

prayers.

Hypocritical-Verses 5-6

Mechanical-Verses 7-8

2. Remember Who you are praying to.

Our God is a personal God who loves us and relates to us as our Heavenly Father.

James 1:17 “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us

from God our Father, who created all the lights in the

heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”

When we think on these things to start our prayer it makes it natural for us to

thank Him and praise Him and worship Him!

Our God knows all things-from the end to the

beginning!

Our God is all-powerful.

What better combination of characteristics in your God could you ask for

than these?

3. When we enter with this correct mindset our prayers will be altered in two ways.

A) God’s concerns will be given top priority.

Romans 12:2 “Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform

you into a new person by changing the way you think.

Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is

good and pleasing and perfect.”

This is why we pray “on earth as it is in heaven.”

this is why we pray that His Kingdom come in our life

And this is also a prayer for the final Kingdom to come.

B) Our own needs will become secondary to His

concerns but we will rely on Him to meet them.

-Physical needs

-Moral needs

-Spiritual needs

He is our Heavenly Father Who combines His fatherly love with heavenly power and heavenly

knowledge of all things and His love directs His power to

perform what is best for us.

And His kingdom and glory and power are FOREVER!

Let’s be thankful for the great blessing of Christian prayer!
