Common Core State Standards In Language Arts, there is a shift into a balance of literacy and informational text, where students engage in rigorous and evidence-based conversations, as well as use textual evidence to inform their arguments. * Students build knowledge about the world through TEXT rather than teachers or activities. They read grade level appropriate text around which instruction is centered. Teachers create more time, space, and support for close reading.
Common Core State Standards In math, students are to deeply understand and operate within math concepts before moving on. They make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, using multiple strategies. They are expected to use math and choose the appropriate concept for application without any prompting. Speed and accuracy should occur with simple calculations.
Standards are evaluated quarterly using a four-point rubric.
• 4 = above 3 = at grade level • 2 = approaching 1 = below grade level
Weekly assessments on social studies/science, spelling, and vocabulary.
