Cookeville Pottery Company

.by

Earl David Lacy

My father, T-eeLavy, and Arnold Lacy owned the pottery from 1940 to 1964.They were forced to sell it by Model Cities, a government project, which discontinued themanufacturing process, after which Lee continued, after relocating, to job, wholesale andretail pottery dishes, etc.

As a young man, I remember working part time finishing pottery, helping fire thekilns, andsell ingthefinishedproduct.Itwashardanddirtyworlgworkingwithclay.The kilns were fired by hand, coal and wood, night and day. Someone had to sleep therewhen the.kilns were fired. I remember as a boy sleeping on an army cot with an alarmclock as the kiln had to be fired every few hours.
