Welcome, Green Committee!
Presentation: What it Means to
Be Green for the JP Case
Environmental Club
• Conserves energy!
• Renewable energy source
• Saves money on electric bills
• Clearview Middle School and Hopewell
Valley are looking at solar panels for
their school.
• No Pollution
• Cuts Electricity Cost
• Less dependent on fossil fuels
•The cost to buy
solar panels is
high
• Inconsistency
due to weather
and pollution
Biodiesel Busing
A cleaner more efficient
way of travel
Affects on Engine
According to National Biodiesel
Organization
• Doesn't affect horse power, gas
mileage and torque
• Buses need little or no modification
• Works fine in cold weather
• Same gas mileage as regular diesel
Chemicals Not Found in Biodiesel
• Smog cut by 50% compared to regular diesel
• Sulfur
• Carbon dioxide cut by 48% than in regular diesel
• Particulate Matter
• Hydro carbons reduced 67% compared to regular diesel
• Nitrogen oxide (NOx)
Disadvantages
• Takes time to change policy
• Possibly high cost
Advantages• Medford, NJ schools
– saves $80,000 a year on biodiesel!
– eliminated 127,000 pounds in hazardous emissions
• Doesn’t burn easily
• Over 200 biodiesel schools in USA
• Fueling stations near Flemington

fertilizers
• Reduces plant diseases and pests
• Educational and related to science
• Smell can be unpleasant
• Can be expensive
SOME COMPOSTING
OPTIONS
• An earth tube
