Weekly Newsletter —December 13 2019 — Issue 38
Dear Mackellar Families, As the school year draws to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to express sincere thanks to all members of our community for your contribution to a successful 2019. I feel immensely proud of our inclusive, diverse community and our achievements this year. Congratulations to our students for their academic and personal growth which is clearly evident in their reports. Student Report comments also reflect a positive mindset where they have acknowledged their individual growth. Establishing our new school values has been a highlight and 2020 will see the introduction of a School-wide Positive Behaviour Matrix that is currently under design and construction. Student voice, agency and leadership has strengthened through the implementation of our Student Representative Council (SRC) and various initiatives, such as the Sports Integrity Award and The Honey Pot Café.

Annual Twilight Family Evening Monday the 16th of December is an important evening for our school community where we celebrate another year of learning and growing together. The gates will open at 5.30pm and the event will close at 7.30pm. There will be a sausage sizzle and beverages sold at the canteen. Our school band will start playing at 5.45pm and the concert will begin at 6.00pm. Teachers are starting to prepare their items with their grades. We are looking forward to sharing the evening with all students and their families. Thank you to all families who have generously donated toys to St Vincent De Paul who will give the toys to less fortunate children this Saturday.
2019 Graduates Thursday’s Grade 6 Graduation at the Taylors Lakes Reception Centre was a huge success and a celebratory evening much enjoyed by our students, parents, carers and staff. Congratulations to every student from 6A, 6P and 6S for reaching this significant milestone. Thank you to their dedicated teachers, Stephanie Sousa, Alecia Mayne, Asir Tutuncu and Rebecca West for their excellent preparation. After an exciting red carpet arrival, students and staff enjoyed a celebration dinner, followed by fun, laughter and photographs in the courtyard before the formal ceremony at 7pm. There were tears of joy and mixed emotions of pride, excitement and anticipation as students reflected on the experiences and memories that they have shared with their childhood friends. As our students stepped up to receive their certificates, we felt immensely proud of each individual student and their journey that we have been so privileged to be a part of. Every student has a special place in our hearts. We acknowledge the uniqueness in all children and remember them for many years. On behalf of all staff at Mackellar Primary School, we wish our 2019 Graduates a happy and exciting 2020 as they begin a new chapter at secondary school where they will embrace new friendships, opportunities, challenges and adventures.
Parent/Carers and Grandparents Morning Tea Thank you to School Council members, parents, carers and grandparents who attended our morning tea on Wednesday. We realise that not everyone is able to attend due to work and other commitments, however we would like to express our gratitude to all of our parents, carers and grandparents for your support throughout the year. Our partnership with families is pivotal to our work as educators. It is important that students see the connection and have a sense that the school and their parents/carers have a shared interest and partnership in their education and wellbeing. Special thanks to School Council Members: Aneta Kimoska, Sofia Akamatis, Monique Hamilton, Amelia Meaney, Bianca Davis and Vince Scarfo. Appreciation also to:
Frances and George - Grandparents of Monique in Grade 4 for their ongoing volunteer work that they generously give every week. Frances assists Food Technology classes across the school, and George maintains Mackellar’s fruit and vegetable garden.
Diane - Grandparent of Mackenzie in Grade 2 for her hard work at our school canteen. Diane’s children attended Mackellar and now her first grandchild.
Mel - Parent of Ceara in Grade 6 and Dayne in Grade 3 for her continued hard work at our canteen this year.

Teeth On Wheels Thank you to Teeth On Wheels for providing excellent dental service to many students this year. The increasing number of families using the service is a testament to the care provided. Students have appreciated the Smile Bags that Teeth On Wheels have so generously provided this term.
Amazing Art by 2F Grade 2F are extremely proud of their recent artwork. This magnificent display has caught our attention over the past week. The detail and variety of patterns, shape, line and use of colour, create a certain mystery within each these portraits.
Best wishes to everyone for a safe and happy holiday season. On behalf of all staff, we hope that you have a chance take some time out to spend with your loved ones. Please take care and we will see you all again in the new year for another productive year of learning and growing together. Sincerely,
