1. The God Jacob keeps faith forever, secures justice for the oppressed,
gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets captives free.
2. The Lord gives sight to the blind; the Lord raises up those that were bowed down.
The Lord loves the just; the Lord protects strangers.
3. The fatherless and the widow the Lord sustains, but the way of the wicked he thwarts.

Message from Deacon Jon
Saint Bonaventure Parishioners,
I was ordained a deacon September 25, 1999 at the Cathedral in St. Paul. Many of you
were present at that ordination Mass. It was my good fortune to be assigned to my
home parish, Saint Bonaventure, as your deacon for the past 22 years and I have never
looked back. It has been a joy to serve all of you through the years assisting many fine
Friars as deacon of the Mass and administering the sacraments of baptism and marriage.
It has been a special privilege to serve at wake services, funeral Masses and graveside
services for your loved ones.
I loved being assigned here as deacon and will carry with me many good memories of
serving. There are many fond memories of the events Joan and I put together to unite parishioners in a social
setting. Joan & I heard your requests to put together both spiritual and social events; starting such events as:
Divine Mercy Services, Friday morning Stations of the Cross at St. Boni’s and at MLCC, Game nights, Valentine
Dinner/Dances, Saint Bonaventure Picnic and Dance on the grass and Veteran’s Dinners. I enjoyed seeing how
much the parish grew and bonded and enjoyed being together at these wonderful social gatherings.
Archbishop Hebda approved my request for retirement from active diaconal ministry here at Saint Bonaventure
effective August 3, 2021. It was not an easy decision to make but Joan and I thought it was the right time to close
out my deacon ministry. I am 74 now; Joan and I would like to spend more time with family and do some things
we have put off these past 22 years.
My final weekend serving will be September 25-26, in honor of my ordination anniversary. I will retain my
diaconal faculties and may continue to serve as a deacon on occasion as I am able, with the permission of the
Pastor. As a retired deacon, I will not be scheduled to serve at the altar during Mass, but Joan & I plan to remain
parishioners. After all, it has been like our second home. May God bless you all. Let us go forth to love God, love
Others and make Disciples.
(I’ll still) see you in church!
Deacon Jon DeLuney
Fall Festival
Children’s Games
Calling kids of all ages! We are excited to tell you we have a 23-foot slide and a 7 Element Obstacle Course for everyone
to enjoy at the fall festival this year!
We are still in great need for donations of 2-liter Pop bottles and store-purchased cookies. Donations can
be dropped off in bins in the Gathering Area or at the entrance of the Activities Building. If you have questions or need
assistance dropping off items please contact Denise at 612-554-4963.
“Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and
heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?” JAMES 2:5
What is more important – being rich in faith or rich in possessions? Society tells us that possessions are most important.
God teaches a different lesson. When we are rich in faith, we keep God first and experience true joy and peace. When
we put possessions first, we soon realize we can never have enough and happiness is fleeting. When we put faith over
possessions we truly realize it is better to give than receive.

Driver Discount Program
The Driver Discount Program is an approved Accident Prevention course for people 55+. Participants who complete the
Driver Discount Review Class are eligible for a 10% discount on their automobile insurance premiums. Participants must
first take an 8-Hour Initial Class, and a 4-Hour Review Class every three years to maintain that insurance discount. The
Driver Discount class will give participants a better understanding of vehicle and traffic safety, new technology, physical
changes and increased driving risks as we age, changes to laws, and the decisions drivers can make to be safer on our
roadways. To pre-register for the class, call Minnesota Highway Safety & Research Center at 1-888-234-1294 or utilize
the website at driverdiscountprogram.com.
Synod Small Groups this Fall
Be part of the Synod process that will shape our local Church.
In small groups this fall, our parish will:
1. Pray for God’s guidance on how we can more vigorously
proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ!
2. Learn the Church’s wisdom on the Synod focus area topics.
3. Discuss your perspective and ideas with other parishioners.
4. Respond with your feedback on Archdiocesan priorities to
proclaim the Good News in our culture today.
Mark your calendar for Thursdays starting September 23 at
9:30-11:30 a.m. or 6:30-8:30 p.m. at our parish. Registration
is available online at saintbonaventure.org/synod, in the Gathering
Space, or you can call the Parish Office. Registration helps with
planning and is appreciated but not required.

Appalachia Christmas Mission & Papal Footprints Shoe Box Project
Thank you to all who have graciously participated in the Appalachia Christmas Shoe Box Mission Project in the past—
many of you year after year! We are so very grateful for your immense generosity which has touched the lives of many
children and families in one of the poorest regions of our country.
We will begin accepting your generous gifts the week after the Fall Festival. Gifts can be placed in the bins wrapped in
children’s gift wrap in the Gathering Area at the back of church and in the entrance to the Activities building. Stay tuned
for more information!
2021 JumpStart 2 School
Volunteers from Saint Bonaventure, VEAP, the school district and the Bloomington community worked together to make
JumpStart2School a great success this year. Over the summer, enough supplies were donated to be able to fill more than
1,100 backpacks for Bloomington school children. We distributed 700+ backpacks during a drive-through event held at
Saint Bonaventure on Thursday, August 19, and the rest were delivered to Bloomington Public Schools, for kids in need
that missed our event.
We had at least 15 volunteers from Saint Bonaventure on August 19, and an additional 15-20 parishioners and the Youth
Group who helped to sort materials and pack the backpacks in the weeks leading up to it. Parish staff and other volunteers
were instrumental in setting up our Activities Building, canopies and parking lot for an efficient distribution.
The JumpStart Committee thanks all of you!
