WECON 2016
An Introduction
WECON 2016 was the 5th edition of international conference on Wireless Networks &
Embedded Systems organized by Chitkara University. WECON was born is 2008 and it one of
the most prominent technical conferences organized in North India. WECON 2016 was the
first edition to garner IEEE technical sponsorship in addition to support from Deakin
University, Australia and Texas Instruments India as Principal Patrons. WECON 2016 was also
financially aided by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) and DRDO (Defense
Research & Development Organization). EFY Magazine was a media partner and other
industry collaborators were MathWorks India, Secure Meters Pvt. Ltd., Aricent India.
Distinguished Dignitaries of WECON 2016
WECON 2016 was attended by over 300 delegates from 13 countries that included
researchers and academicians from Indian Engineering Institutions, Research Organizations,
Foreign Universities, and Professionals from industry. We received over 300 papers in five
track areas of which 99 papers were selected in the first phase, followed by the selection of
60 papers after two rounds of reviews and rigorous plagiarism check. A team of 56

reviewers reviewed 300 papers in two phases. In addition to paper presentations WECON
2016 featured two pre-conference Texas Instruments workshops, keynote talks and panel
discussion session.

The WECON 2016 in Chronological Order
Pre-conference Texas Instruments Workshops – One of the principal patrons of
WECON 2016, Texas Instruments India conducted two parallel sessions of faculty
workshops on latest embedded & analog technology. These workshops were
attended by about 40 faculty members from 13 different engineering institutions. The
topics of the workshops were 1) Power Management Design & Application using
PMLK kit from Texas Instruments and 2) Building IOT Applications using TI CC3200
wireless microcontroller from Texas Instruments. The workshops were conducted
during Oct 14-15, 2016.

Inaugural Ceremony – The inaugural ceremony of WECON 2016 was held on Oct 15
during 9:30-11:30AM and was attended by around 300 delegates from India & Abroad.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara - Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University grazed the occasion
accompanying the chief guest of the ceremony Dr. Traver Day – Pro Vice Chancellor,
Faculty of Science Engineering & Built Environment. Other distinguished dignitaries

Inaugural session featured three keynote talks by Dr. Traver Day (on the topic
Industry/University Partnerships - a Deakin University Perspective and Strategy), Mr. S.
Vijay Anand (Road Ahead on the Connected Vehicle with Internet of Things), and Dr.
Giriraj Nyati who talked about India’s Potential to become technology super power
owing to the availability of huge skilled man power. CD Proceedings of WECON 2016
WECON 2016
was launched in the inaugural ceremony (shortlisted papers of WECON 2016 will also
feature in IEEE Xplore). The ceremony was concluded with the announcement of four
upcoming conference and symposia by Chitkara University till 2018 – Electronic
Design Symposium (EDS2017), National Symposium on Computing, Analytics &
Networks (CAN2017), ACM Conference on Computer Vision 2017 (proposal submitted
to ACM) and 6th edition of WECON in 2018.

Unveiling of CD Proceedings
Technical Sessions – Paper Presentations were conducted in two slots – Morning
11:45 – 1:00PM and 3:00 – 4:30PM. In both slots around 30-35 papers were presented
in five parallel tracks namely – Smart & Intelligent Electronics, Energy Efficient and
Alternate Energy Based Electronic Systems, Real Time Embedded Systems, Wireless
Communication and Wireless Networks. In the morning slot a special session was
conducted where papers featuring only Texas Instruments Technologies were
presented. The session was chaired by expert from Texas Instruments. In Annexure A
you will find the list of papers presented in WECON 2016. Below are a few pictures

Panel Discussion was attended by around 100 people. The team of panelist was a
good mix of industry and academia representation from both India & Abroad. This
lead to a good discussion where each representative presented the present scenario,
opportunities and challenges they face in their respective regions and domains

WECON 2016 Outcomes
WECON 2016 was attended by academicians & researchers from all over India. It
provided good opportunity to explore the possibility of inter institutional research
collaborations.
WECON 2016 was attended by researchers from around the globe; it provided a
great opportunity to learn each other culture and understand research challenges
and opportunities across borders.
WECON 2016 attendees were a good mix of industry and academia. Tremendous
platform to explore industry academia collaboration.
WECON 2016 had a great team of 54 reviewers, provided a great platform for
budding researchers in getting reviews for their research work.
Each of the 5 WECON 2016 tracks were chaired by 3 session chairs who were
experts in their areas. It was a great opportunity for the researchers to get reviews
and feedback about the work they were doing.
WECON 2016 featured 2 pre-conference hands-on workshops on cutting edge
Texas Instruments Technologies and was attended by 40 faculty of 13 different
institutions and the trainers were the experts from Industry. It provided excellent
opportunity for knowledge sharing.
WECON provided a great opportunity for networking.
