Coats and Blankets Needed
Our congregation has been participating in the Bismarck-Mandan Homeless Coalition since the beginning of the year. The Coalition is sponsoring a Project Service Connect event on Thursday, August 15th. On that afternoon all of the service providers in the community will be in one location to allow people who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk to homelessness, to access the services they might need all in one location. The clients who attend will be able to access haircuts and some simple medical screenings, get help with writing a resume, talk with service providers about their eligibility for various programs, and obtain some concrete assistance. The Coalition is looking for coats - either child or adult size - that can be distributed to those who might be able to use them. The Coalition is also look-ing for blankets to distribute as well. If any participant in our congregation has either winter coats or blankets that are no longer needed, please bring them to the church and Pat Conrad will deliver them to the Coalition's office for distri-bution in August.

Congratulations to Christine Kujawa for being selected by the Public Library Association as the 2013 recipient of the Gordon M. Conable Award. The award honors her work in leading intellectual freedom education and advocacy on local, state, and national levels.
Keep Tom Disselhorst and his wife, Arlene Andre in your thoughts as she continues chemotherapy. And as Tom’s mother has been diag-nosed with cancer.

For the first time, and thanks to Karen Van Fos-
san and Tim Hathaway of Prevent Child Abuse
North Dakota, the UU Church celebrated CHIL-
DREN’S SABBATH as part of a multi-faith move-
ment across the country to share concern for
children, commit to improving their lives and
work for justice on their behalf.
We also celebrated Flower Communion, a tradi-
tion observed by Unitarian Universalists since
1923. Flower Communion emphasizes both our
individual uniqueness and common faith.
These beautiful traditions are sure to continue in
our church!
The Bismarck Tribune ran a wonderful article
about the Children’s Sabbath. Read that by
clicking HERE.
Thank you to all the Sunday School
teachers, kids, families, church mem-
bers and friends who made this such a
memorable service!
