Pour Droopy, c'est une grande première ! Ce lundi matin, le chien s'entraîne au centre commercial. Sera-t-il capable d'obéir dans un nouvel environnement ? C'est ce que Malvina, son éducatrice, veut vérifier. Car dans quelques semaines, Droopy, le labrador noir, sera confié à une personne handicapée. Il devra l'aider dans sa vie quotidienne – ramasser des objets, apporter le téléphone, allumer la lumière – en toutes circonstances, y compris dans une grande surface ! L'exercice commence mal. Sur le parking, Droopy n'écoute pas son éducatrice et s'approche de chaque passant. À l'intérieur du magasin, il écoute le bruit fort des jouets, et devient tout de suite très agité. « Ça, c'est vraiment un problème, car il pourrait être confié à une famille qui a un bébé », explique Malvina. Dans le rayon des téléviseurs, Malvina fait asseoir Droopy et disparaît de son champ de vision. Imperturbable, le chien attend l'ordre pour se relever. De retour au centre Handi'chiens, Malvina fait le point : « Au début, Droopy était très déconcentré. Sa marche en laisse n'est pas parfaite. Il a tendance à marcher trop en avant. Je vais retravailler tous ces points. »
