Causes of the Civil War DBQ

Directions: The following question requires you to construct a coherent essay that integrates your interpretation of Documents A-J and your knowledge of the period referred to in the question. 1. Historical Context: Prior to 1865, a major issue that faced the United States was the institution of slavery. Some individuals and groups were against slavery, and they promoted abolition in a variety of ways. During the same time, the government attempted to deal with the issue of slavery in other ways.

2. Question:How does the government, specific groups and individuals deal with the issue of slavery in America prior to 1865? Use three specific events and three documents to support your answer.
