Web Intelligence 4.3 and SAP Analytics Cloud User Interface Similarities
Having been working with SAC recently, then working with Web Intelligence 4.3 I was struck at how
similar the interface felt, which is of course one of the intentions of the homogenised Fiori interface used
across SAP’s products. So I thought it would be interesting to compare them side by side. In each
comparison below Web Intelligence (Webi) appears on the left or above and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)
on the right or just below.
Of course being different tools they have different capabilities but the consistent starting point means
higher productivity and user adoption. To validate this I have compared just the basics interfaces.
View Mode 1
Same graphics engine; chart rendering very similar. Same layouts, colouring and fonts
1
Design Mode Default View
Both start with a data view; Webi in a table, SAC in the Data tab.
Consistent screen layout; available objects (and formatting options) to the right.
Top banner and menu bar look and feel.
As a side note, an added bonus with Webi 4.3 over 4.2 is dragging columns from one location to another
works first time, I don’t need to try to grab it two or three times anymore!
Design Mode Breakdown: Data/Table View
Consistent fonts, headers, colouring
Design Mode Breakdown: Adding a Visual
Visual type selection and object selection in the same places
Design Mode Breakdown: Side Pane
DConsistent fonts, colouring, icons. The upper pane relates more to each tool’s unique
capabilities.
The available objects are found in basically the same place in both tools, although SAC
segregates measures and dimensions where Webi uses colouring.
NB the right click menu substantially different as exposes each tool’s unique capabilities
Design Mode Breakdown: Menu Bar
Layout, icons (eg undo/redo), colouring, fonts, as well as same terminology (where appropriate)
Query Panel
Consistent icons, font, colouring (eg selected objects) and layout (although also true for 4.2)
