PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of this professional development project is to prepare a research-based presentation about Web 2.0 technology, as well as why and how they can be used to support teaching and learning in the K-12 classroom.

WHAT IS WEB 2.0?“Web 2.0 is defined as an online application that uses the World Wide Web (www) as a platform and allows for participatory involvement, collaboration, and interactions among users. Web 2.0 is also characterized by the creation and sharing of intellectual and social resources by end users” (Lemke, Coughlin, Garcia, Reifsneider, and Baas, 2009).

IMPACT OF WEB 2.0 ON EDUCATION

School districts all across the United States have begun the push for more integration of Web 2.0 tools and other ICT into the classrooms.

The invention of the Internet and the Web are “introducing opportunities and motivation for transforming the conditions of learning; how we view learning, and how we can shape our educational practice to better support learning (Harasim, p. 29, 2012).”
