Oxfordshire is going to The Wave!

What is The Wave?

• What? A massive family-friendly carnival-style procession

• When? Saturday 5th December, 12pm-3pm, two days before COP-15 starts

• Where? Central London and Glasgow

• ACT FAIR & FAST: Deliver a fair global deal in Copenhagen that keeps global warming under 2◦ C.

• PROTECT the POOREST: Provide resources to help the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people adapt to climate change.

• QUIT DIRTY COAL: End our reliance on dirty coal power, and instead boost the UK’s renewable energy supply to help build a green economy & create new jobs.

What are we calling for?

Dress code: Blue!

• Wear blue clothes and wigs, bring blue banners and props, and paint your palms on arrival - let’s flood the streets!

What’s the plan on the day?

• Feeder events: 10am Climate emergency bike ride - see www.campaigncc.org; 11am Ecumenical service, Westminster Central Hall - see www.cafod.org.uk

• Assemble: 12pm, Grosvenor Square• Climax: 3pm Encircling of Parliament• After party: 4:30pm, LSE - more details coming

Getting to The Wave from Oxford & around

Go by coach - 2 options• The Co-operative and Oxfam have sponsored special buses for the day, which will be leaving

from Beaumont Street, opposite the Ashmolean Museum, OX1 2PH, at 8:30am on the day, and returning that evening. Tickets are £5 return, and can be booked via www.the-wave.org.uk. You need to be a Co-op member or Oxfam supporter to buy tickets, but you can buy for up to five others who are not members at the same time…

• Oxford Climate Alliance has also organised cut-price coaches. These will leave at 10am from St Giles, and return that evening. Tickets are £10/£8 concs., and are available from Uhuru on Cowley Road, The Inner Bookshop on Magadalen Road, Fairtrade at St Michaels on Cornmarket, and from the website: from http://web.bethere.co.uk/OSCC/

So what can you do in the lead-up to ?

• Tell everyone you know Members, friends, community,colleagues…

• Join the brand new ‘Oxford goes to The Wave!’ facebook group and invite all your contacts - address coming up…

• Book your travel tickets now, and encourage friends to do the same

So what can you do in the lead-up to ?

• Help spread the word and get 1000 people there on the day

- circulate flyers and posters

- organise awareness raising events - all ideas are welcome! Just drop me an email and I can offer support/speakers/up-to-date information…

So what can you do in the lead-up to ?

• Make banners,outfits, props - organise an evening in your local area for people to come together and get creative…

- For example, Grove House is hosting a banner making day on the 28th of November - see www.grovehouse.info for details and to book a spot for £2 (to cover the cost of materials)

And what to do post-Copenhagen? A quick note on life beyond for SCC

• Discussions are currently on-going within the coalition - the future is uncertain

• However, whatever happens in Copenhagen, there will be a need to:

(1) push the British government to meet its climate obligations (2) (quite possibly) to push for a better international deal

• Keep an eye on www.stopclimatechaos.org.uk for updates in the near future
