Watercolor

• artists' paint made with a water-soluble binder such as gum arabic, and thinned with water rather than oil, giving a transparent color.

wash

• A watercolor term for a flat layer of very diluted color laid across the paper. It can either be an even layer of color or a graded layer which gets lighter.
