Editorial
Dear Customers and Business Partners,
Welcome to our new Chriwa brochure with which we would like to show you our
philosophy and passion for water. I founded Chriwa Wasseraufbereitung as a
young graduate engineer back in 1973 and started selling water treatment plants.
From the very beginning we applied all our expertise to the design of our plants.
The individual requirements of our customers have always been and continue to
be the focus of all activities. Today, I can proudly say that my colleagues, the
entire team and I have established a group of companies that is synonymous with
the special expertise in all areas of water and waste water treatment plant tech-
nology. The centrepiece is Chriwa Wasseraufbereitungstechnik GmbH in Ham-
bühren, located between Celle and Hannover in Germany. We supply water treat-
ment plants to over 90 countries around the world from this location and our
branch offices, distribution and service partners ensure the smooth operation of
all plants supplied by us. Our proximity to Hannover International Airport means
that we are always quickly on site when required. In addition, we support our
customers with software remote maintenance services.
What sets us apart is the fact that we produce our own plants. Filter vessels are
moulded and welded in our production facility, the surfaces are finished and all
components are pre-assembled to form complete treatment plants. Stainless
steel, mild steel and plastics are processed in our production department accor-
ding to international requirements. We can produce vessels to the maximum
transport size and maximum permissible pressure rating.
Today, I am very pleased and grateful to see that together we have gained access
to a global customer base - including well-known companies from the internatio-
nal beverage and food industry. The trustworthy collaboration that we have with
our customers unites us in a strong and enduring partnership.

What Guides UsCustomer satisfaction with the highest level of quality
Chriwa's philosophy is to combine optimum customer satisfaction with the highest level of quality. We are consistently
developing our process technologies and optimizing plant concepts.
We supply our customers with reliable, sophisticated and robust plants that comply with all international design and
safety standards. These high standards in terms of plant safety prompted us to expand our manufacturing base around
40 years ago to include (pressure) vessel production.
IT technology found its way into our company as early as 1987. Chriwa operates its own powerful data processing system.
In addition to designing and constructing our plants with 3D CAD software, we have developed our own process visuali-
sation and process control programmes that give our customers an overview of the plant operation at all times and
enable online maintenance using special remote programmes.
The continuous modernisation process across all divisions of the company guarantees our customers plant solutions
using state-of-the-art research and development. Our certified quality management as well as the on-going training of
all of our employees contribute to this.

to be sustainable. The modular construction of our plants enables them to be adapted to new requirements at any time.
This is efficient and cost-effective.
Innovative strength
Since 2000, successive strategic partnerships have been formed or companies integrated into the
Chriwa Group in order to enhance innovative strength, safeguard know-how and expand busi-
ness areas. For example, this relates to the areas of standard applications in waste water
technology, membrane process technology or the core business of pool water treatment. All
company divisions have been operating independently since 2010 under the umbrella of a
holding company.
The latest developments and research findings are promptly implemented for the benefit of
users. At the same time, this helps conserve resources and benefits us all as well as the envi-
ronment.
6
Designing–Developing–ImplementingTailor-made plant design
The design of a plant begins at the source, so to speak, with the analysis of the raw water, an assessment of the requi-
rements at the customer’s premises, an inspection of the surroundings and clarification of the task.
The project planning of a plant is closely linked to the specific demands of our customers based on their production-
specific requirements. Our extensive engineering expertise and our leading edge in process technologies provide solu-
tions that are always finely tuned to industrial applications. Many years of experience in the calculation, design and
planning of plant systems always provide the optimum cost-effective solutions in all process and treatment technolo-
gies.
The structural design is carried out using the latest 3D design software. This ensures optimum utilisation of space
and hygienic plant designs with the minimum amount of dead space, amongst other things. Clear identification of pipe
systems, assemblies or other plant parts after commissioning is also of benefit during maintenance and servicing work.
Made in Germany: We design and produce vessels and equipment ourselves. The individual components of our Chriwa
water treatment plants are fully pre-assembled and tested at our company headquarters in Hambühren. Final installa-
tion is completed on site by our own specialist personnel, to turn-key standard if required.
A clear delivery and service description provides cost transparency and assurance. We organise global shipments
from Germany, prepare the required documentation and are AEO-certified.

BeveragesandFoodPure and delicious
In the food and beverage industry, strict regulations govern the purity and safety of food for human consump-
tion. Water is an essential element in their production. Different processes are used that substantially enhance
the product quality depending on the water quality available at the start of the production process.
In the beverage industry, for example, the key factor in the production of soft drinks, lemonades or juices is
excellent and consistent water quality and the product water standards that ensure that the finished product
always has the same taste. Different water treatment processes are used depending on the type of raw water
and hydro-chemical conditions.
Of course, Chriwa's scope of services also encompasses all aspects of industrial and process water technology
in these industries.
Chriwa is a long-standing partner to major international beverage companies.

MineralandTableWaterRecognised quality
Mineral and table water is generally obtained from underground springs. It is bottled at the site of the spring.
The purity must be safeguarded and deviations in mineral content must be minimised. Mineral and table water
in Germany requires official recognition and is defined by the Mineral and Table Water Ordinance.
The water must be treated with different processes depen-
ding on the source so that it always has the desired
quality. For example, elements like iron and manganese
are filtered out or the water is refined using special degas-
sing plants.
Chriwa water treatment plants guarantee to maintain the original purity and composition in compliance with the
Mineral and Table Water Ordinance.

BreweriesWater, malt and hops
The quality of brewing water is crucial for the taste and quality of a good beer. If the malt represents the soul of
the beer, then the water is its body.
Accounting for over 90 %, water is not just the key ingredient of a beer but is also needed in different qualities
in countless other production and ancillary processes in the brewery.
Chriwa water treatment technologies enable the specific and reliable treatment of different raw water qualities
to achieve optimum brewing and industrial water tailored to the respective process - and with consistent quality
of course. Intelligent processes for water reclamation improve operating efficiency.

AnaerobicWasteWaterTreatmentEnergy efficiency and biogas production with challenging waste
Anaerobic waste water treatment has become increasingly important in recent years. CUSS has also realised
projects successfully in this field and made a name for itself on the market with its sophisticated concepts and
customer-friendly project process. Especially in industrial sectors with heavily soiled waste water, anaerobic
treatment offers an excellent solution with particular benefits.
Biogas produced by the fermentation of organic materials represents a considerable energy potential for the
generation of electricity and heat. From an environmental and resource-saving perspective, tapping this poten-
tial is of considerable importance.
21
AerobeAbwasseraufbereitung
The release of unburned biogas into the atmosphere is prevented, which in turn protects the environment. The
use of biogas replaces fossil fuels and operating costs are reduced significantly.
The use of combined heat and power plants (CHP) in combination with waste water treatment plants is a core
component of our product portfolio and will become even more important in the future. In cooperation with the
customer, we develop a tailored treatment concept embodying our extensive expertise and experience.
