WATER BOTTLE AS BRICK IN CONSTRUCTION

PREPARATION OF BRICKS

CONSRUCTION PROCESS

Dig a cylindrical pit about 60cm in depth. The radius should be at least 10cm more than the length of the bottle that you are going to use for constructing the pillar.

Make a cement bed(about 4cm thickness)in the pit. Insert an long iron/steel rod at the Centre. Tie a long and strong thread to the rod. Now we are going to lay 10 or 11 bottles around this rod.

After building all the pillars, You are ready to make the platform.

Make an outline of your platform with chalk powder or any color powders.

Make a Clay bed about 5cm height and width 5cm .

Now lay the bottles (with their neck facing outwards) one by one on this bed and tie them to each other as shown in the picture. After laying a course, fill the inside area with cement, clay or rubble. This is to impart more strength to the structure.

STRENGTH The compacted sand in the bottles are almost 20

times stronger than the “BRICKS”.

DURABILITY The Plastic Bottles are re known for their

durability.

This type of construction is more durable than that of brick construction.

The Bottles can last as long as 300 years.

COST ANALYSIS The cost of this construction

can reduce 33% cost of the house made of concrete and bricks.

ADVANTAGES Low Cost Non-Brittle Absorbs abrupt shock loads Reusable Less Construction Material Easy to Build Green Building

DISADVANTAGES It Is Un-decomposable and In-destructible

When it is melted it releases a compound gas which is harmful to health and environment

It weakens the Ozone Layer

REMIDIES By using recycling process the un

decomposition of plastic can be reduced Scientists are now developing plastics that

are made from vegetable oil and other organic matter. This means the plastic is more likely to be degradable, and so it will be safe in future

CONCLUSION Everyone should recycle as much of

their waste as possible to prevent reusable materials being buried in land fill waste sites. Recycling does not cost anything, takes only a little extra time, and can make an amazing difference to the world
