Fort de Lippe

As commander-in-chief of the allied British and Portuguesian troops, Count William of Schaumburg- Lippe successfully staved off the Spanish invasion in the so called „Fantastic War“ (Guerra Fantástica) and saved the Portuguesian independence. He established a war and artillery school and reformed the portuguesian army. Modelled after the shining example of fortress Wilhelmstein near Hannover, he gave order to construct the Fort de Nossa Senhora da Graça in Elvas in the style of the French master- builder Vauban. To honour William the king named it „Fort de Lippe“.

In 2012 the Fort has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

By now the fortress stands as a namesake for a traditional watch collection designed by the descendant Prince York of Schaumburg-Lippe in which every watch has its own history.

Max Sause —

Following a career in private banking which landed him on the board of a Berlin insurance company, Max Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe decided only after that to truly accelerate – he became a successful racing driver for Mercedes and BMW. During his 15 years of active driving he was nick-named “Prinz Sause” (“Speedy Prince”) – the family named him “Max Sause” - and truly helped shape the beginnings of motor sports.

He raced with his team during the 1930s in Spa, Le Mans and in the “Mille Miglia” and left his competitors in his tracks to the podium. Both, the driver and his co-driver, needed skill, endurance and highly technical precision to achieve this – merely half of all the teams that started were able to meet these challenges.

Princess Juliane —

As the only reigning female head of the house of Schaumburg-Lippe (1787–1799) Juliane was ahead of her time. She stood against invaders of her county following the death of her husband and was the original founder of the spa town of Bad Eilsen. At her asking her personal physician Dr. Bernhard Christoph Faust composed his study of the Health Catechism which was distributed at schools. This extraordinary chapbook became so popular that it was translated into most European languages.

During Juliane’s reign Bueckeburg mirrored her truly exquisite education and fine taste. The chamber orchestra, founded by Count William and led by Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach, reached a new height of popularity under the Princess.

The jewellery collection is dedicated to Princess Juliane: a timelessly modern woman.
