Important Reminder for High School
The 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT this year at Washburn School on September
26th, 2018. The cost of the exam is $18 and it is required for all 8th graders.
The 9th to 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT this year at Washburn
School on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. The cost of the exam is $18 and it is required for
all students at Washburn.

Cada año, el 21 de septiembre se celebra el Día Internacional de la Paz en todas las partes del
mundo. Es un día dedicado al fomento de los ideales de paz en todas las naciones y pueblos y
entre estos.
Los Estados miembros de las Naciones Unidas adoptaron los 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo
Sostenible en 2015 porque consideraron que no es posible hacer de este un mundo pacífico si no
se toman las medidas pertinentes para lograr el desarrollo social y económico de todas las
personas del mundo y garantizar la protección de sus derechos. Los Objetivos Sostenibles abarcan
una amplia variedad de materias, entre las que se incluyen: pobreza, hambre, salud, educación,
cambio climático, igualdad de género, agua, saneamiento, electricidad, medioambiente y justicia
social.
El tema de este año es la conmemoración del 70 aniversario de la Declaración Universal de
Derechos Humanos. La Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos es un documento que marca
un hito en la historia de los derechos humanos. Elaborada por representantes de todas las regiones
del mundo con diferentes antecedentes jurídicos y culturales, la Declaración fue proclamada por
la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas en París, el 10 de diciembre de 1948 como un ideal
común para todos los pueblos y naciones. La Declaración Universal (el documento más traducido
del mundo, disponible en más de 500 idiomas) tiene tanta relevancia hoy en día como la tuvo el
día en que se proclamó.
«Es hora de que todos los pueblos y naciones actúen en consonancia con lo dispuesto en la
Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos, en la que se reconocen la dignidad inherente y los
derechos igualitarios e inalienables de todas las personas. Este año se celebra el 70 aniversario de
este histórico documento». -- António Guterres, Secretario General.
Esta semana celebraremos el Día mundial de la Paz con la actividad “Adopt a friend”. A través
del compartir con el otro, estaremos fomentando la camaradería, la integración y la solidaridad
como seres humanos. Les recuerdo, además, que el 26 de septiembre el 8vo grado estará tomando
el PSAT y el 28 de septiembre celebraremos la actividad de “Student of the month”.

Washburn School mantiene una política de cero tolerancia al acoso escolar. Nuestra institución se
caracteriza por el interés en mantener un ambiente placentero y familiar entre los estudiantes.
Para esto, contamos con la colaboración de la comunidad escolar y la identificación temprana de
situaciones que puedan escalar hasta convertirse en un problema de acoso.
El acoso escolar se define como cualquier patrón de acciones repetitivas e intencionales, llevadas
a cabo por uno o más estudiantes y dirigidas a causar daño o miedo a la otra persona. Sin
embargo, es importante reconocer que no todos los problemas interpersonales o de violencia
que ocurren en la escuela son considerados como “bullying”. Para que una conducta sea
considerada como acoso escolar, esta tiene que ser repetitiva (o sea, un patrón), tiene que haber
una intención de hacer daño y debe existir un desbalance de poder entre el agresor y la víctima.
Existen diferentes tipos de “bullying”:
1. Acoso físico: incluye golpes, heridas, patadas, empujones, halones de pelo, escupir, morder o
forzar a hacer actos en contra de la voluntad de la persona.
2. Acoso verbal: cualquier comunicación oral o escrita que cause daño, como por ejemplo,
burlarse, poner sobrenombres, insultar, amenazar, hacer comentarios sexuales inapropiados o
propagar rumores falsos.
3. Acoso psicológico o social: conductas dirigidas a dañar las relaciones o la reputación de la
víctima, como por ejemplo, excluir, marginar, discriminar o aislar a la víctima, dejarle de hablar,
difamar, rechazar o incitar a otros para que acosen.
4. Destrucción de propiedad: robar, alterar o dañar propiedad de la víctima; tomar propiedad y no
devolverla; borrar información electrónica personal.
5. Acoso cibernético o “cyberbullying”: agresión utilizando la tecnología como lo son las redes
sociales, mensajes de texto, chats o correos electrónicos. El agresor utiliza tanto textos como
imágenes. Incluye subir fotos o videos no autorizados a internet.
De sospechar que su hijo (a) es víctima de algún tipo de acoso, debe informarlo de inmediato a las
autoridades escolares para la investigación correspondiente. Le invitamos a conocer más sobre
nuestra Política y procedimiento específico de actuación para prevenir el acoso escolar o
“bullying” en las páginas 54-57 del Reglamento del Colegio.

examen no será igual al repaso. La parte de comprensión lectora se evaluará en el examen #2.
La semana pasada pudimos comenzar a trabajar el cuaderno Tu Turno ya que la gran mayoría lo
tiene y los que no, les entregué copias del material.
Recordatorio: Las actividades de la semana se planifican con anticipación, por lo que están
sujetas a cambios debido a las necesidades particulares de los estudiantes y el tiempo que les
tome dominar la destreza o completar una tarea. Cualquier duda o pregunta estoy a su orden.
