Religion

Christianity is the religion prevalent among the people of the United Kingdom. The Church of England has influenced the world for years. Lately, other faiths have also been gaining popularity in the UK, most notably Islam.

LiteratureThere have been numerous British authors who have influenced the world around them, and are remembered decades after their demise. There have also been many pioneers and innovators – famous authors who devised their own genres, poetic devices and more. Examples of famous British writers include the colossal William Shakespeare, the renowned Professor J.R.R. Tolkien and the contemporary but equally famous J.K. Rowling.

Media

The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) was the first broadcaster in the world. It has maintained its reputation as a moving force and a medium for the voicing of all views. Even today, the BBC is as popular as it was when it was founded in 1922.

SportMany sports have developed due to innovations brought in by the UK. Cricket, now a game that billions across the globe enjoy, originated in the moors and fields of the UK, and developed even as the British people developed. London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, will be experiencing the honor of hosting the Olympic Games thrice in July 2012.
