Congratulations! Felician Village was the largest and top fundraising team at the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Manitowoc/Two Rivers. A representative from the Alzheimer’s Association said, “We are so grateful for all you do to bring awareness for this awful disease. Thanks for all you do!”

TimeSlips - A new program for dementia TimeSlips offers story-telling to everyone by replacing the pressure to remember with the freedom to imagine. The program infuses creativity with story-telling into daily relationships, activities and the care community as a whole which helps to improve the well-being of residents, especially those with memory loss. Multiple studies attest to the power of TimeSlips to help improve well-being, communication and relationships between staff and resident “storytellers”. Connie Thimmig, Director of Enrichment Services, and Tim Reinemann, Supervisor of Quality of Life, are certified as facilitators and then will train staff. Residents can choose to opt out. A session of TimeSlips includes gathering up to 10 storytellers in a semi-circle. Each resident will be given a picture and then asked open-ended questions about it. The facilitators will transcribe the exact responses from the storytellers on a flip chart and create a story. There is no pressure to remember because it uses the imagination; there is no right or wrong answer.Check out felicianvillage.org/timeslips.html to see the stories created by our storytellers.

Planning and preparation is an ongoing task at Felician Village. New nursing home regulations announced in late 2016 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and the State of Wisconsin have St. Mary’s staff putting the final touches on updated policies and procedures in time for our annual state survey. Our administrative team is in the process of preparing the budget for our next fiscal year July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018. In addition, through our Board of Directors, we are updating our Strategic Plan for the next several years so we can match our needs and budget. Although it takes a lot of work, it’s work we are passionate about. And every day, when we see the smiles on the faces of the residents we serve, we know we’re doing what’s right. As Blessed Angela, the Foundress of the Felician Sisters said, “Where there is a need, fulfill it” and that is our goal.
Peace and All Good,
