Nestled in the hillside of the Fraser Valley, the Popkum First Nations people host a one-of-a-kind motocross experience at the Popkum Motor Park. The track layout takes ad-vantage of the spectacular beauty of the temperate coniferous rainforest surrounding it. The GP-styled MX course layout features massive step-ups, a gnarly downhill and a 130’ tabletop that allows riders to hang it all out for the fans. As such, the riders and specta-tors alike are treated to an impressive visceral racing experience that is truly unlike any other.

sick whips.In the middle of the front straightaway at Popkum, is the track’s biggest obstacle, a tabletop that stretches 130’ or so. Riders have plenty of line choices leading up to this jump, and the height, distance and airtime afforded them gives them lots of time to explore creative options in the air. If that is not enough, the jump runs parallel to the TransCanada Highway 1, giving drivers in passing cars an incredible airshow as they travel to their destinations. Here are three riders who consistently im-pressed fans with their jumping abilities, trying to go bigger and bigger on nearly every lap, and it was a toss-up to decide who would take top honors for throwing down the Sickest Whip.

During intermission, Future West Moto honored the memory of a beloved moto brother, Gord Stewart, who passed in March of this year. His son, Jordon was the first recipient of this inaugural annual award, while Brent Worrall and John Bowman were named co-re-cipients. Gord’s mother, Shirley, is pictured at left.
