Stopping In at...
Tambo’s Pig Pen BBQ
When you pass through the small town of Elberta, there’s one stop for food and gas on the edge of town as you head toward Florida. Tambo’s BBQ is the last food stop and if you’re a hungry local or weary traveler you’ll be glad you decided to scoop up some great BBQ.
At Tambo’s you’ll find a large menu for your dine in or take out pleasure. We ordered the small family meal that offers a sampling of pork, ribs and chicken, two sides and your choice of tangy or sweet sauce. If you’re like me and have a tough time deciding between tangy or sweet, they are kind enough to give you some of each. If someone in your group isn’t a big fan of BBQ, you’ll find items like burgers, hot dogs, hot wings, catfish, salads, baked potatoes and chicken fingers on the menu, as well.
Tambo’s is located at 27950 US Hwy 98 in Elberta. They open at 10am, 7 days a week for lunch and close early on Sunday afternoon. Be sure to get there early, ribs and chicken sometimes run out quickly and you don’t want to miss out on either. You can reach Tambo’s Pig Pen by phone at 251-986-8744.

Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.Isaiah 40:31
Alabama Gulf Coast Christian Academy was founded in 2006 with 21 students but is quickly approaching 100 students in grades PK3 – 12 for the 2012-2013 school year. While there are waiting lists for certain grade levels, there is still room for new students in most of our classes. If you would like your child to receive their education in a close knit, friendly, family type atmosphere where God’s word is taught and emphasized in every subject, then AGCCA may be the place for you. Located in a quiet country setting at the corner of county roads 28 and 71 in Summerdale, AL, the school boasts of a quality Christian education in a family atmosphere. We strive to teach the whole child and instill a faith in God that the student will have with them long after graduation. Our theme for next school year is “Serving in HIS steps” taken from John 12:26. We have daily Bible classes and daily chapel services that will emphasize the idea of serving God. Additionally, this summer AGCCA had a school mission trip to Costa Rica where teachers and students were able to serve others in a foreign context for 10 days. At AGCCA we want to impress on our students that we have opportunities every day to serve God and serve others in His kingdom. In addition to serving God, we have also been earnestly working to prepare for the school accreditation process. We are excited to host our on site visit for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the National Christian Schools Association during April of the 2012-2013 school year. We feel that this accreditation will serve to further validate the excellent education that our students already receive each year. To coincide with SACS accreditation, we have also added a mobile computer lab to our school. We have purchased a classroom set of laptops and plan to use the school’s existing Wi-Fi service to bring the computer lab to our classrooms. We have also hired a certified Art teacher to our staff for the 2012-2013 school year to further serve the needs and talents of our student body. We would like to invite you to stop by our school one day and see the Smart Boards that are in every classroom in action, and say hello to our family of students and teachers. Please visit our website at www.gccacademy.org or call our office at (251)989-2333 for further information about how your child could benefit from a quality Christian education.

AN “A” FOR LIFE
When I was a worn out Pharisee, exhausted from years of trying to carry out a performance-oriented life and ministry, I attended a seminar taught by a seminary professor and radio broadcaster named Steve Brown. It was there that I ran smack-dab into the truth of what grace is really all about. I realized that, though I had believed that I was “saved by grace”, I didn’t have a clue when it came to living on the basis of grace. Instead of being set free, my faulty understanding of religion had wound me up so tight that I was making everybody, especially myself, totally miserable. God used Steve to change that for me.At the very beginning of the new semester in one of his classes, Steve said something like this to all of the students in that class:“ I have some wonderful news for you today! At the end of this semester, every one of you will receive, for your final grade, an ‘A’. Whether you deserve it or not, it doesn’t matter. Whether you work hard or get lazy, I am hereby on this day promising and guaranteeing for you nothing less than an ’A’ for this course!”The members of the class couldn’t believe their ears at first, but once they became convinced that Steve was on the level, they were thrilled! Some thought there had to be a “catch.” But there was no catch. He really meant it.He went on to say:“How much you get from this course is up to you. If you come to class and pay attention, do the assignments and study hard, you
will benefit much from this course. As a result you will probably enjoy it more, and what you learn here can also be used to benefit others in your life. I sincerely hope that you will do this, and will really put yourself into it. But regardless, I have promised you a gift - the grade of ’A’. So, since the pressure is off, have fun with it.”From what I understand, the administrators called him in and said that he couldn‘t do that, but he told them that he had already done it! What Steve was doing was (by example) teaching these stu-dents a lesson in grace that they will never forget. I used to think that when God said, “Thou shalt not,” that it meant that He would be very very angry with us if we disobeyed His authority, because He wanted to show us who was the boss. Now I see that it is because He cares for us and doesn’t want us to hurt ourselves. When you told your children not to play in the street, not to fill up on candy bars, and not to touch that sharp broken glass or jump out the window or anything else like that, it was because you loved your kids and didn’t want to see them enter into an unhappy experience. God does us the same way. But if and when they do whatever they want and start to scream and cry, you still love them and they are still yours. Don’t you suppose God is the same way with his kids?We live in a world that includes laws of cause and effect. All of our actions have consequences. God loves us unconditionally, but the laws of the universe will not be suspended for our sake. You may think that you are invincible until “your time” comes, but I promise you that if you make it a habit to drink anti-freeze and
stand in the freeway, your time will come a lot sooner!
But when it comes to your final grade, friends, I have some really wonderful news:Because of the love of the one who died and rose again, you have been offered an “A“ for life! Your diploma has already been printed, and your seat is reserved for the ceremony. You really don’t have to worry about it.Of course your life will have much more meaning, much more joy, and be more beneficial and useful if you show up, study, pay attention, and learn your assignments. But when you graduate, it will all be by amazing grace!I hope that you can believe this. If you do, rejoice in it with all your heart, that you have been graced enough to “get it.”John Newton once wrote that not only is grace a free gift, but that being able to see that it is a free gift is a gift in itself! Once a lady said to me, “The way that you tell it... I’m sorry, but that’s just too good to be true!” As far as I know she never changed her mind. But it is true. You can stop trying and start trusting. You can get some rest, and then tell everybody, in a gentle, loving and patient way, that there’s nothing they have to do because it’s already done; nothing they have to pay because it’s already paid. Can you believe it? Congratulations... You’ve got an “A!”

To be a follower of Christ, we have to love one another. Strong men cannot strengthen the weak nor weak men the strong. The poor cannot become permanently rich by robbing the well-to-do. The wage earner cannot be lifted up by pressing down the wage payer. Unity and fraternity cannot be promoted by inciting hatred among men. Character and ability cannot be built by taking away a man’s independence.
Thomas K. Beecher could not bear deceit in any form. Finding a clock in his church was habitually too fast or too slow, he hung a place card on the wall above it reading in large letters “Don’t blame the hands, the trouble lies deeper.” This is where the trouble lies with us when we do wrong. The trouble lies so deep that only God’s miracle working power can deal with it. Sin indeed lies deep. But the blood of Jesus goes deeper. When we sin we need to go to him, asking him to search our heart and show us the root of our problem and be obedient to do what he asks, allowing him to cleanse us.

A Note From the EditorAmong my many blessings in life, I have the pleasure of my dad and attorney being one in the same. I was re-minded of his dedication to both when, this week, he picked through a contract with a fine tooth comb, spent over two hours on speaker phone with us highlighting its’ problems and wrapped up the conversation with his opinion from a small business owner and “dad” perspec-tive.
When I reflected on this event I smiled at the greeting card-like sentiment I would write to my father and came up with the following: Dad, thanks for greatly reducing the risk of me making a poor decision.
Throughout our lifetime we will all struggle with sur-rounding ourselves with great advisors. We will also struggle with tough decisions in life, looking into our futures and hoping we don’t regret the decision being made at hand. Having a father that has sniffed out non-clarity and deceit, professionally, for over thirty years makes me grin and I know that he truly does “greatly re-duce the risk of me making a poor decision.” And for that, I’m a very fortunate woman.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week,Audrey Chambers
