Virtue
II Peter 1:5-8: Though our individual goal is to grow to perfection in Jesus Christ, we teach progress, not perfection.
We are to increase in those Christian graces. It marks a healthy, productive Christian.Maturity is about what we do, not what we
know.But what is virtue?
Moral excellence, goodness, righteousness. Quality that is active, not passive.
Virtue
Strengthen your foundation: Faith.We must have a growing faith (Rom. 10:9-10; I Peter 1:8, 10; Heb. 4:11).
We must increase and demonstrate our faith (Rom. 1:5, 10:17; James 2:14-26).
Build onto your foundation: Virtue.Eph. 4:17-32: Old man vs. new man.God’s word: the standard (II Tim. 3:16-17).
Virtue
Virtue: Stems from the character of God God can’t lie (Heb. 6:18). God is faithful (I Thess. 5:24). God is righteous (Rom. 9:14). Strength of character (II Pet. 1:5).
How does character come? Contemplate what is right (Phil. 4:8). Decide what’s right (Rom. 12:9). Put it in practice to do what is right (II Pet.
1:5).
Virtue
Virtue does not ask what will others think and how will it affect me physically or materially.
It asks one question: Is it right? We are God’s workmanship (Eph. 2:10).That doesn’t mean sitting on our backsides
and being pulled along God’s path.Phil. 2:12-13: Work out our own salvation. Our work is valuable and matters because
God is working.
