3 Virtualization
Virtualization, in computing, refers the act of creating a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, including but not limited to a virtual hardware platform, operating system (OS), storage device, or network resources.
4 Virtualization types
Access Virtualization
Application virtualization
Processing virtualization
Network virtualization
Storage virtualization
5 Hypervisor
A computer on which a hypervisor is running one or more virtual machines is defined as a host machine. Each virtual machine is called aguest machine. The hypervisor presents the guest operating systems with a virtual operating platform and manages the execution of the guest operating systems. Multiple instances of a variety of operating systems may share the virtualized hardware resources.
Types : Type 1 :
Vmware Workstation , Virtual Box
Type 2 :
ESXi ,OVM
6 Computer Cluster
A computer cluster consists of a set of loosely connected or tightly connected computers that work together so that in many respects they can be viewed as a single system.
7 Types of cluster
High avalibility (HA)
Load balance
High performance computing (HPC)
8 Example for HPC cluster
9 VMware vSphereVMware, Inc. is an American software company that provides cloud and virtualization software and services, being the first who managed to virtualize the x86 architecture. It was founded in 1998 and based in Palo Alto, California, USA. In 2004, it was acquired by EMC Corporation and now operates as a subsidiary.
In August 2011, VMware launched ESXi 5.0, which now falls under the vSphere 5.0 suite of products.
10 ESXi 5.x
VMware ESX and VMware ESXi are bare metal embedded hypervisors that are VMware's enterprise software hypervisors for guest virtual servers that run directly on host server hardware without requiring an additional underlying operating system.
vSphere ESXi
11 vCenter Server
VMware vCenter Server provides a central location for managing all of the virtual machines deployed inside the VMware vSphere infrastructure.
12 VMware vSphere client
The vCenter client is used to manage individual ESXi hosts as well as to provide an administration interface to the vCenter server.
13 Types of storage in Vmware vSphere
Network file system (NFS)
Virtual machine file system (VMFS)
14 VMware vMotion enables live migration of virtual machines between servers with no
disruption to users or loss of service, eliminating the need to schedule application downtime for planned server maintenance.
vSphere vSphere
vMotion
15 Distributed resource schedular (DRS)
provides dynamic, hardware-independent load balancing and resource allocation for virtual machies in a cluster.
vSphere vSphere
16 High availibility (HA)
High-availability clusters (also known as HA clusters or failover clusters) are groups of computers that support server applications that can be reliably utilized with a minimum of down-time. They operate by harnessing redundant computers in groups or clusters that provide continued service when system components fail.
17 VMware Disributed Power Managment (DPM)
automates energy efficiency in vSphere Distributed Resource Scheduler clusters by continuously optimizing server power consumption within each cluster
